It’s my favourite time of year! Why? Because it’s Canada Day weekend! There’s so much to celebrate about the birthday of our glorious country on June 1st, especially because it’s our 151st year as a nation.

And if you’re reading this being extremely skeptical, like Barney Stinson here, take a look as we debunk the common Canadian stereotypes and why we Canadian’s are truly awesome.
Our random sayings
We may talk in a slight accent and we definitely have some outlandish sayings to people from other area’s of the world. But Lord love a duck, that’s what makes us special! Back off you hosers!
Our love of beavers

Once people hear we are from Canada their heads always go directly to the confusion of our love for beavers, along with other sexualized comments. I’m just going to sum it up with this gif.

And yes, that is the same reaction we get from our American counterparts.
Our love of Tim Hortons
Yes, we love our Tim Hortons. But no, we would never register at Timmies for our wedding or baby shower. We have Hudsons Bay for that, thank you very much!
Our ability to speak two languages
https://giphy.com/gifs/how-i-met-your-mother-himym-barney-stinson-4QwZncUpbQb7O
That’s right, we have an entire section who speaks french completely and the rest of the nation learns it in school to help us become bilingual. And in our country the more languages you speak, the more money you make. Speaking of which…
Our Money
Although Elton John has a home in Canada where he spent much of his career creating music, our money is amazing! It’s colourful (unlike the boring colours of US money) and smells like maple syrup. Our wallets are always colourful and smell beautiful.
Our Passion for Hockey
What can we say? We love our hockey like we love our loved ones. Saturday nights watching Hockey Night in Canada is a spiritual experience you have once a week and it’s a beautiful thing that brings us together. And if you’d like to insult us for our love of it, we’ll take good care of you!
Our politeness
We pride ourselves on being polite. But don’t be fooled, we can get nasty.

See?
Our fashion choices
First of all, we don’t wear snowshoes unless we live up north where it snows a ridiculous amount. Second, we wear regular boots and shoes to specific events.
Our arguments always resulting in what good things we brought to the table

If we ever get in a heated discussion with an American who doubt our creative abilities, we bring up every single thing possible to clear our name. We defend the red and white until we die!
Those are just a few other facts, for those who don’t believe us when we say we do have notable accomplishments as a country.
Our healthcare system
You know, people always say that our healthcare is weird considering most of the US aren’t lucky enough to experience what we have. But seriously, it’s awesome! We never have to worry about finances determining our healthcare and it’s wonderful.
Our lives being overshadowed by the US
We are our own country, and no one ever lets us celebrate because we’re too busy being overshadowed by our neighbors from the south. It’s frustrating but we don’t mind because we silently sit back and let us enjoy your glory.
Our differences between the US
https://giphy.com/gifs/television-how-i-met-your-mother-himym-CQgcLS1k5S0Ug
We measure temperature in Celsius, not Fahrenheit, we say colour instead of color and a lot of the way we do things are done differently than the US. So don’t tell us we are wrong when we are doing things the way we are taught to.
Our sex factor
Contrary to popular disbelief, Canadians are attractive freaking people! Don’t believe me, think of Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling, or Avril Lavigne and Pamela Anderson. (For a full list of hot Canadians please see here, there’s nothing to say sorry about that link!) And remember…
It’s the truth.
Our pride
https://giphy.com/gifs/coffee-canada-wireless-T3FcjBK8DBVQY
We are so unbelievably proud of our accomplishments as a country and who we are as people and we embrace our crazy selves despite the world questioning us. There’s no shame in being a canuck!
All in all Canada is a wonderful place and we should all be fortunate to live in a world where there is a place like our home and native land. Even if we are the butt of every joke, we take it as a compliment and as jealousy because we’re pretty freaking great. But seriously…
