It’s officially summer and with great heat, comes great music. And this great music has rightfully been assigned to become the new summer anthems.
Whether you’re lounging on the beach, cooped up in a cubicle, hitting the gym, or pre-gaming a cabana party, here are some remixes to get you through the summer.
1. Ginuwine – Pony (Viceroy “Jet Life” Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/94322416″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Nothing wrong with a bangin remix to a classic throwback, right. Actually that’s probably my favorite genre of remixes, tbh. Try and listen to this without dancing, I dare ya. Ginuwine and Viceroy for the win.
2. Imagine Dragons – Shots (Broiler Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/197971464″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Ah, classic case of a remix transforming an otherwise mediocre song (sorry Imagine Dragons). The original needed a little umph to push it to become a so-called “banger,” according to Parks and Rec’s Tom Haverford. I would indeed include all of these remixes in my list of “bangers.”
3. Otto Knows – Parachute (Bottai Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/169166707″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
I usually get really pissed off by really long intros (and this song’s intro is basically half the song) but I promise it’s worth the wait. Treat it as a prelude to the eargasmic experience you’re about to undergo, thanks to Otto Knows and Bottai.
4. Kap Slap – Let It All Out (Leeyou & Danceey Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/195744013″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Kap Slap, another personal fave of mine, is a super talented DJ from LA. Leeyou & Danceey, on the other hand, are two German brothers who fuel the statement that the Europeans are forever killing the game. High-energy music that’s perfect for pre-gaming and working out. Blast it.
5. Black Coast – TRNDSTTR (Lucian Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/177683998″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
The one’s got a little bit of a different sound, but it grows on you. It’s just techno enough, yet it’s balanced out with M. Maggie’s seductive and unique vocals. Lucian doesn’t hold back in the inclusion of rhythmically intriguing sounds.
6. Tiesto & KSHMR – Secrets feat. Vassy
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/196156839″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
One of my personal favorite DJs, Tiesto, always satisfies with his high-energy jams. Vassy’s provocatively piercing vocals paired with Tiesto and KSHMR’s sick beats creates the perfect underlay for a pregame or intense workout. Also, the drops never disappoint.
7. Madeon – Pay No Mind feat. Passion Pit
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/190186898″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Who doesn’t love Passion Pit? Their usual techno vibes are intensified with Madeon’s mixing talent, leaving us with a sing-along, windows-down jam.
8. Steve Aoki & Moxie Raia – I Love It When You Cry (Moxoki) (Club Killers Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/210644136″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
I discovered Steve Aoki from his famous Kid Cudi, Pursuit of Happiness Remix, and honestly since then, he has never disappointed. This mix has a Krewella sound, and Moxie Raia’s voice is perfect for singing along.
9. Jack ü – Where Are U Now feat. Justin Bieber (Kaskade Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/210606839″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Confession: I don’t even like this original song. (I don’t know, it’s something about the squeaky beat, am I alone?) But hey, Kaskade got in there and flipped it for the greater jamming good. Utilizing some techno sounds, the result is almost robotic, but it works.
10. Blinders feat. Charles – Always (3LAU Mix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/210408898″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
The drop will 98% guarantee a slight head-bang, lmk if you of the 2% have different results. 3LAU continually satisfies with this energetic rave, while Charles’s clear vocals are weirdly soothing. By the way, it’s pronounced “blau.”
11. Gazzo feat. Chase Rice – Sun Turns Cold
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/208396436″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Wait a sec, that couldn’t be the Chase Rice, the country singer, right??? Yes, indeed, it is. A mix of high-energy synthetic pop and country seems like a recipe for confusion at the very least. But alas! It works. I am one to only enjoy country songs in certain circumstances, so for all you skeptics out there, give it a listen.
12. Calvin Harris & HAIM – Pray to God (R3hab Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/206882837″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
A Calvin Harris and HAIM collaboration is a thing you didn’t know you needed, promise. This mix continually blows my mind for some reason, each new time it plays on repeat. R3hab, an originally Moroccan and Dutch dude adds to this genius duo, intensifying the jam even more.
13. Major Lazer – Get Free (Vacationer Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/92485566″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Major Lazer (you probably know them by the hit, Lean On), teamed up with Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors for the summer jam from 2012. Thanks to Vacationer’s “Nu-Hula” vibes, the song’s been amped up to achieve the perfect amount of eccentric chill.
14. Disclosure – You & Me feat. Eliza Doolittle (Baauer Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/92202164″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Baauer’s back! Yes, he’s the one responsible for the infamous Harlem Shake. Underrated music producer; look at this remix, for instance. Eliza Doolittle’s pipes compliment the electro-trap harmoniously, in the most hyper-rad way.
15. Gentleman Hall – Sail Into The Sun (RAC Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/94542789″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Here’s a chill one for ya. This is such a bright tune, if it makes sense to compare music to, well, the sun (ha). RAC’s responsible for this beach-chillen remix, appropriate for any outdoor gathering.
16. Phoenix – Trying To Be Cool (Breakbot Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/94489722″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Phoenix, best known for their tracks, “1901” and “Lisztomania,” released this track in 2013. French producer, Breakbot, gives us his interpretation of it, and it’s definitely got a chillwave feel.
17. Daft Punk – Digital Love (Panic City Remix)
[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/83821375″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
Panic City believed this original 2001 song needed a modern revamp, and he has delivered. An existing techno song with an added electro twist will inevitably leave you satisfied.
You can find the whole playlist here. May your summer soundtracks be filled with techno-rad vibes to fuel your everlasting jam sessions. Enjoy.
