There’s an old expression that says a woman’s hair is her pride and glory. From the amount of time us ladies spend on our hair – from the regular trims and root touch-ups to styling it each and every morning – I think most women would agree. No matter how you choose to wear your hair, you’re always making a statement. However, it’s not always easy finding the time to manage it. Now that school is in full swing, it’s difficult to try and keep your hair looking its best. Sometimes, it can be hard to simply find the time to wash your mane. Worry not: we’ve got you covered. Check out these life-changing tips that will trick the world into thinking you spent hours on your hair when it really only took you a couple of minutes.
The ‘90s Scrunchy
If you find that your hair is unruly in the morning, use those tangles to your advantage. Put some de-frizz product in to tame the fly-aways and then put half of your hair up into a pony tale with a trendy scrunchy. You’ll end up with a cute ‘I woke up like this’ look that some girls spend hours trying to achieve with a curler. Putting your hair half-up also hides any grease you may have at your roots. Plus, scrunchies are back in with the ‘90s trend that has been taking over the runway, so this hair accessory will give you major street cred.
Put a hat on it
If your hair is greasy in the morning but you have absolutely no time to shower, conceal it by throwing on a hat. It will give your whole outfit a very relaxed, athletic vibe. It’s literally as effortless as combing your hair out in the morning (and that step is totally optional) and putting a hat on – then you’re out the door and headed for your 9 am class. You can even throw your hair in a ponytail if it’s that unmanageable and then put the hat on and run.
Dry Shampoo
If you don’t already use a dry shampoo product, then you’re doing something wrong with your life. This will make your greasy locks look refreshed and clean in a matter of seconds. Simply spray the dry shampoo into your hair, focusing on your roots, and then massage it in for a couple of minutes. Then, voila, your hair is as good as new. Dry shampoo works perfectly when your curls are still in tact or your hair actually stayed straightened from the day before – put the product in and your hairstyle is good for another day.
The Headband
Chanel your inner Blair Waldorf by sporting a big, preppy headband or go for a more trendy minimalistic look with this accessory. This works well to hide any excess grease in your roots and give you a fashionable hairstyle. This look is great if your hair retained its style from the day before or if you’re happy with its natural state. You can even use some dry shampoo to help get rid of oil and then your hair will be as good as new.
Tease, tease, tease
If you feel like your hair is lacking volume on its second or third day (or even fourth – no judgment), take a fine-tooth comb and start teasing. If you comb your hair backward towards your scalp, it helps to build volume and makes it look like you had time to wash and blow-dry. When you’ve teased a section, brush the top of it so it’s not too fluffy, and add some hair spray to make sure your hair stays that height for the whole day.
Braid it the night before
If you know you’re not going to have time to fight with your hair in the morning, put it in braids for the night. When you wake up and take the braids out, you’ll be left with effortless mermaid-inspired waves that will make it look like a completely different hairstyle then you were sporting yesterday. Add some dry shampoo or use the teasing technique if you want to give your waves some extra bounce.
Embrace the bun
If your hair is too crazy to leave down, then put it in a bun. There are so many styles of buns to try that you’re bound to find one that will fit your hair type and personal style. You can go with a classic topknot, a trendy sock bun, a messy bed head look, or even a chic low-bun. Just remember that perfecting your bun takes time and practice, so don’t be disheartened if your bun isn’t Instagram-worthy on your first try. Practice makes perfect.
Now, you can hit the books in style. But really, feeling your best means performing your best. If you feel amazing about looks and your locks, you’re going to radiate positive energy and be in the perfect mood to tackle all of your philosophy readings. Studying will never be that much fun, but you may as well do it looking your best.
