It seems like everyone’s goal for the new year is always to get healthy and eat better. It can be difficult when those fries are calling your name and that chocolate cake is just begging you to eat it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to indulge every once in a while, but eating clean makes you feel so much better than indulging in sugary treats ever will. Foods with a lot of sugar can make you feel tired throughout the day and don’t always fill you up. Eating the right foods can help you feel less bloated and give you more energy. Here are some things you should keep in your kitchen to help you get that body you’ve been working for:
1. Grapefruit
It’s actually been proven that people who eat grapefruit a couple times a day lost weight without changing any other parts of their normal diet.
2. Non-fat greek yogurt
This yogurt is higher in protein than normal yogurt, so it fills you up more and for a longer period of time. Try some plain yogurt with honey, chia seeds, and bananas on top!
3. Turkey
Nothing can beat a juicy burger but turkey burgers are way better for you. Turkey is higher in protein and lower in fat than beef. You can even try mixing some ground turkey into your spaghetti sauce instead of meatballs!
4. Green tea
Green tea is one of the best things for your metabolism. It burns fat and is great to drink after a meal. If you don’t like the taste of plain green tea, try squeezing a bit of lemon or honey in.
5. Apples
This tasty fruit is packed with fiber and contains a lot of water which makes you feel full without so many calories.
6. Fish
Things like tuna and salmon are loaded with tons of protein and omega-3 fatty acids. They promote fat burning and slow your digestion which means less craving.
7. Quinoa
This grain is one of my all time favorite healthy foods. Not only does it have a lot of protein but it’s so much better for you than white rice or white pasta.
8. Water
Everyone knows staying hydrated is good for you but drinking a full glass of water before a meal can help you get full faster so you don’t eat as much. Sometimes you can mistake your thirst for hunger and end up eating more than your need. If you really don’t like the taste of plain water, add some lemon or other fruits to make detox water.
9. Avocados
Avocados are the love of my life. They’re full of monounsaturated fats which are the fats that are actually good for you. For breakfast or a snack, I love mashing up some avocado and putting it on some rye toast with a bit of salt and pepper.
10. Chia seeds
Chia seeds are a tiny seed with a big punch. They don’t taste like anything but sprinkling some on your yogurt or even on your salad can make you feel full for longer.
Eating clean is something that takes getting used to and it’s not going to happen overnight. It’s a change you have to make in your lifestyle in order for your body and mind to feel great. Of course, it’s alright to indulge every once in a while, just try not to make it everyday.
