What if I told you that everything you need to get healthier skin was already in your house? Well, believe it because it’s the truth. So many people think they need top of the line face washes and serums to get flawless skin, and while some of those products are really great, everything you need for better skin is actually hiding in your daily habits. After trying almost every over-the-counter face wash out there, I realized that it’s the little things that matter most when it comes to clear skin. You could be seriously effing up your skin and not even know you’re doing it.
The truth is, there is no miracle product out there that is going to instantly make you blemish-free. It takes hard work and a bit of help, just like everything else in the world. But hard work isn’t so hard once you get into a routine, so here are a few things that will help your skin and cost you nothing.
All you have to do is make seven tiny changes, and you’ll be on your way to better skin in no time.
1. Constantly Touching Your Face
You might not notice it, but chances are you touch your face throughout the day more than you think. That means that all the dirt, oil, and germs on your hands get on your face and cause breakouts. Stop doing this and I’m willing to bet you’ll see a skin improvement.
2. Not Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes
It can be easy to forget this step in your beauty routine. We wash our faces and clothes, so makeup brushes should be washed just as regularly. Brushes don’t get to breathe, so all the bacteria and old makeup is just sitting on them ready to touch your clean face and cause breakouts. You can wash your face all you want, but if you’re using dirty brushes, you’re still hurting your skin.
3. Forgetting To Wash Your Pillow Cases
I didn’t notice how much of a skin impact this made until I actually started doing it. Your face is being pushed into the pillow for hours a night while you sleep, so if it’s not clean, neither is your skin. Also, try sleeping on a silk or satin pillowcase for smoother skin and less wrinkles.
4. Not Using Your Face Wash
You can’t expect your face wash to work unless you use it regularly. Yes, it sucks to get out of bed and actually go do it, but your skin will thank you for it later.
5. Consuming Too Much Dairy
Today’s dairy contains a lot more hormones than it did back in the day, which could be giving you skin issues. Because your body has a natural amount of hormones that it needs, adding too many overloads the body and causes many people to break out. Think of it as your skin giving you a warning that something’s not right.
6. Not Drinking Enough Water
There’s just no way to get around it – you need to be hydrated to have good skin. If you find drinking water too boring, try carbonated or flavored water instead. Adding fresh fruit or heating it up and adding some lemon is also really delicious. Bonus points that it makes your photo look good on Instagram.
7. Staying Up Too Late
Along with water, getting enough sleep is essential for the body. It’s the skin’s time to relax before it has to talk to people, face harsh pollutants, and get tugged all day long. They don’t call it beauty rest for a reason, guys!
Change these seven little habits, and I guarantee your skin will thank you in the long run.
