Having a close group of friends that you probably met at college is SUPER important to your well-being, but you should not underestimate the importance of having a group of work friends as well. Work friends might not be there when you get home from a long day, but they probably spent that long day with you. They’ve seen you at your breaking point and still love you, no matter how frustrated you get with something (or someone).
When you applied or the job you weren’t expecting to get more than just some extra money in your pocket. But as you look back it, you realized that you’ve gained so much more with people who appreciate you for who you are.
Don’t forget to thank your workplace besties for the 9 things we love the most about them:
1. They give you a break from the people you see all the time.
It’s almost like getting a break from your life. You don’t have to think about the dishes that are piling up in the sink at home. You don’t have to hear the daily drama you’re used to hearing around your friends. It’s a whole different environment with new and refreshing conversations.
2. They are always on your side.
No matter what you’re going through, they always have your back. They know what you put up with every day because they are putting up with it too. They’re also there to help pick up the slack when you’ve had a rough shift.Â
3. They make work suck less.
The time you spend together is thoroughly enjoyable, and makes it each shift worth more than just the paycheck. Whether it’s the silly face they shoot your across the room or the cookie that they leave you on the break table, they always know how to brighten your day.Â
4. You have the best vent sessions.
You can talk to them about anything and they don’t try to stop you. You get to talk to people with no outside knowledge of your drama so they don’t have anyone to side with other than you. It’s kind of great.Â
5. They support you.
Whatever you’re doing outside of work, they are supportive of you. If you’re playing sports, writing articles, or whatever else it might be, they are always there to congratulate you and cheer you on.
6. You develop a special bond with them.
They become almost like your second family. You see them so often and get to know each other so well. It’s a bond that grows stronger the longer you work together. Before you know it, you’re inviting them over for wine nights and into your family.Â
7. You know each other’s secrets.
You spend so much time together that you naturally confide in them. You feel comfortable telling them about the embarrassing text you sent last night, or crying to them in the corner about how you don’t know what you’re doing with your life when everyone else thinks you have it all together.
8. They make work go by faster.
Having them around makes the hours fly by! Even if you’re just sharing endless stories about what you did over the weekend or catching up on gossip since the last shift you worked together, it makes the long day much more bearable.Â
9. You lift each other up.
When things start to get hectic, you have to remind each other that everything is going to be okay. They help ground you and know what calms you down when things get crazy. They always have a positive outlook and help you when you need it.Â
These amazing people might have started out just as people you work with, but they’ve become so much more than that. They’ve turned into your family and you couldn’t imagine your life without them. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for love advice or how to do a job correctly, they are always there to help you out.
