Weekends in the summer are filled with drinking, eating, lounging, and often very little – or no exercise. With that said, I think it is important to recharge during the week with plenty of water, fresh fruits and veggies, and good exercise. My two favorite things are cardio and core, and these are the only exercises you need when it comes to those target areas.
Cardio is a necessity in any workout to get your heart pumping. Core can be a “lazy” way to gain your strength back, so start with core and cardio on Monday, and save legs and arms for after you get back into it. Another benefit to this easy routine, is that you don’t have to bother going to the gym and you’ll feel accomplished just because you were self – motivated and worked out in your own living room. Here it is:
Cardio.
I am cardio obsessed. It is the best way to get your heart pumping, your body moving, and it gives you the burst of energy needed before starting your strength exercises for the day. So here are my favorite cardio moves to start your workout, because really, who needs a treadmill?
50 Jumping Jacks
5 Burpees
5 Squat Jumps
30 High Knees
For these I recommend holding your hands just below your chest and make that your guideline.
30 Butt – Kickers
30 Speed Skaters
(15 on each side)
5 Squat Jumps
5 Burpees
This should get you moving and sweating, make sure you take a good drink of water before you start the next exercises!
Core.
Let’s face it, there is nothing better than the feeling you get after a solid ab workout!
30 Crunches
30 Russian Twists
If you’re like me and like a challenge, do this move with a ten pound weight, and remember, 1 rep = twisting to both sides.
10 Reverse Crunches
30 Bicycle Crunches
30 Oblique Crunches
(15 on each side)
1 Minute Plank
30 Second Side Plank
(On each side)
10 V – Sit – Ups
30 Side Hip – Lifts
(15 on each side)
These suck but they really get your lower abs working, be sure to lift from your core, not just your butt.
It really doesn’t take much to boost your mood and give your body that feel good motivation it needs to get back on track after a “cheat weekend”. I know I’m no expert, but I say who needs the experts when you’re just trying to make yourself feel better and get that summer body.
