The New Year is just around the corner and I think it’s safe to say that this past year brought a lot of surprises, some good and some bad. A lot of us are happy to welcome in the New Year and leave 2016 behind. I am definitely one of those people who can’t wait for the last minutes of this year to run out already. During those last couple of moments before midnight, though, I always find myself feeling a bit sad that the year has actually gone by. And I’m positive that I’m not the only one who has these type of thoughts.
Here are some other last minute ideas that come to mind minutes before the clock strikes midnight on NYE, which I’m sure a lot of us can relate to.
- “I can already feel like this year is going to be different. Gotta make those resolutions!”
We all make New Year’s resolutions. Some of us keep them, a lot of us don’t. Some of us want to start the New Year with a promise to ourselves that things really are going to be different this year. What a great way to welcome the New Year by making a resolution right at twelve and keeping it! I’m not talking about the “I have to go to the gym EVERY SINGLE DAY” type of resolution, but more generic ones, like “I am going to try to fit in more family time in my crazy schedule this year.” The moment before midnight is the time to reflect on the previous year and decide what areas of your life are in dire need of a change.
- “I wonder if I could still get my midnight kiss?”
For the single people out there this is probably the most common thought that comes to mind minutes before the clock strikes twelve. A tinge of jealousy always creeps in when you see the already paired off couples who will share that magical moment. Even if there is no chance of getting a kiss right at twelve, the mind still wonders to this question. We all expect miracles to happen, and sometimes they do! But it’s also okay if this doesn’t happen because this kiss should be shared with someone special and it is worth waiting for.
- “This year is finally going to be over in 3…2…1!!!!”
For all of those who felt like they got run over by 2016 multiple times, the minutes before midnight seem like the happiest time ever. The year is almost up and that means change. This tingly feeling comes up in the pit of the stomach signaling the upcoming year is going to be different in a good way. Out with the old, and in with the new! Goodbye bad luck, hello lucky opportunities.
- “I feel like something magical would happen right about now. Time to make a New Year’s wish!”
I’m the type of person who makes wishes when I see the clock read 11:11. So for me, midnight on New Year’s is another reason to make a crazy wish and hope that it will come true by some miracle. There are so many things I could wish for, my mind races minutes before twelve. You have to make this one count, so wish for something big!
- “I cannot believe that this year is already over.”
For the lucky ones who had a great year the minutes before midnight might bring up a feeling of sadness. A wave of nostalgia can cover you while you are getting ready to say goodbye to 2016 and welcome in the New Year, which is full of unexpected adventures. It’s a strange feeling to know that technically nothing changes after the clock strikes twelve, but there is still a melancholic feeling of knowing that the year is over.
Whatever your thoughts are before midnight on NYE, make sure those last few minutes of 2016 count and welcome 2017 in with open arms! Make sure to ring in the New Year with someone close and special so that the old year ends on a good note.
