We all have days where we struggle to get out of bed and actually get stuff done. Sometimes we just can’t find the motivation to get going. Finding motivation to do things you don’t want to do in the first place can be especially challenging. I know if I have a task I don’t like, I don’t want to do it. But I found that self-encouragement and motivation really helps. So here are a few things I have learned that help me find motivation throughout the day.
Take a break.
This is one of the most important things to do. If you are overwhelmed with whatever you are doing, finding and keeping motivation can be difficult. So if you are feeling down or stressed, take a break. Clear your head, but make sure you eventually return to the task at hand. Take a break, but don’t give up.
Keep as much as you can to yourself.
Sometimes we get super excited and what to share everything to the people around us. But even the people closest to us aren’t always supportive. There is a chance if someone doesn’t like or understand what you are doing, they may bring you down. So keeping certain things to yourself is a great way to keep your confidence at an all time high. You can share your successes with those around you.
Find little things that encourage you.
Whether that is a cup of coffee in the morning, reading a book during lunch, or taking a relaxing bath at night, do things that put your mind at ease and allow you to continue. These things give you something to look forward and can motivate you to get through the day.
Celebrate the small things.
If you do something well or accomplish something, you should be proud of it. No matter how small or insignificant you think it is, it is a victory nonetheless. Doing those daunting tasks are next to impossible if you can’t celebrate when they are over. Remember to reward yourself for all of your hard work.
Keep it real.
Make sure your to-do list is realistic and reasonable. Don’t try to fit a week’s worth of things in one day. Only write down things you have to do and know you can get done. This way you aren’t overwhelmed at the start of your day. You can always add more if needed, but starting simple is the best way to go.
Be gentle with yourself.
Understand that you can’t do everything. And you won’t be successful at everything you attempt. And there is nothing wrong with that. But being hard on yourself and punishing yourself every time you fail isn’t motivating. It’s only bringing you down. So don’t be too harsh on yourself. Just celebrate the wins.
Change your perspective.
Not many people like getting up early in the morning, but instead of thinking about having to get up early, think of it as time added to your day. Think of all that you can accomplish in that extra time.
Embrace setbacks.
Sometimes you fail. It’s a part of life. But it’s what you do with them that matters. If you let them get to you and hold you back you won’t be very motivated. However, if you learn from your mistakes and are willing to grow, it doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. So embrace what you can and grow from it.
Do what you love.
This is so simple but so important. If you are doing what you want to do, finding motivation won’t be too difficult. When you look back on your day you will be happier and more satisfied if you did something you loved and are passionate about. Your motivation will come from doing something you care about and love.
Focus.
Limit distractions and interruptions. If you need a break, take a break, but eventually, you have to come back and finish. And no matter what it is, you should always put in your best effort. You will feel so much more satisfied and accomplished if you know you tried.
Those are just a few of the things you can do to motivate yourself every day. Of course, there are others. Finding motivation doesn’t have to be difficult. Just find what makes you happy and keeps you going through the day and use that to get through the not fun parts. It is possible to motivate yourself, you just have to know what works best for you.
