Why 2017s Music Industry Makes Me Happy To Be A Woman

Lately, there has been a boom. No, not a baby boom, but a shift in the level of empowering music by and for women in today’s society. These professional ladies are creating, composing and singing these incredibly powerful songs that make me ecstatic to be a woman. Don’t get me wrong, being a woman can be hard, but the more we empower each other, the easier it is. These strong female celebrities who are passionate about being a woman; an independent woman, make it so much easier for everyone listening. With that being said, here are a few empowering songs of 2017 that provide us ladies with the strength and independence we all need.

1. Woman – Kesha

This killer tune isn’t only a party song, it’s also an empowering song to change your mood at any time of the day. Throughout the entire song, the new and improved Kesha speaks about her independence and how, as a woman, independence is more than okay to have.
“Don’t buy me a drink, I make my money. Don’t touch my weave, don’t call me honey. ‘Cause I write this shit baby, I write this shit. I’m a mother f*cking woman. Baby, alright. I don’t need a man to be holding me too tight. I’m a mother f*cking woman.”

2. Sorry Not Sorry – Demi Lovato

I will admit, this Disney Star hasn’t always been on my playlists, but after releasing this single… she always will be. “Now Payback is a bad b*tch and baby, I’m the baddest. You f*ckin’ with a savage. Can’t have this, can’t have this (ahhh). And it’d be nice of me to take it easy on ya, but nahhh. Baby, I’m sorry (I’m not sorry), Baby, I’m sorry (I’m not sorry).” Boom! Like I ’m sorry (I’m not sorry), but how can you not get excited about this tune. As a woman, I feel so inspired to go out and be my best self… how could you not?

3. Most Girls – Hailee Steinfeld

Not only does the music video include feminism strength, but it shows the diversity and respect for all women and their interests. Steinfield killed this song. This is a song to add to that Friday night pre-game for girls’ night, to your Tuesday afternoon playlist that you listen to at the office, and best of all… a song to sing in the shower, where the shampoo bottle is your microphone. “Most girls are smart and strong and beautiful. Most girls, work hard, go far, we are unstoppable. Most girls, our fight to make every day. No two are the same. I wanna be like, I wanna be like, most girls.” I couldn’t help myself, this song has so much reality and truth within the lyrics.

4. Don’t Kill My Vibe – Sigrid

Sigrid mastered this piece with showing her strength within a relationship and realizing that he was holding her down; something we all need to realize. “You think you’re so important to me, don’t you? But I wanted you to know that you don’t belong here. You think you’re so important to me, don’t you? Don’t kill my vibe. You love to tear me down, you pick me apart, then build me up like I depend on you, no! But I throw myself from heights that used to scare me. Guess you’re surprised I’m the puzzle you can’t figure out.” If you have been in relationships or not, this is a great song choice to find your true inner strength as a woman. It also teaches us not to let men walk all over you. And that us women are able and need to stand up for ourselves.

5. Learn To Let Go – Kesha

Okay, yes, I know I already used one of Kesha’s new songs from her album, Rainbow, but I have to add another one. This other single is an empowering song (not only to women but to men too). “I know I’m always like telling everybody, ‘You don’t gotta be a victim, Life ain’t always fair, but hell is living in resentment. Choose redemption, your happy ending’s up to you’ I think it’s time to practice what I preach, exorcize the demons inside me. Whoa, gotta learn to let it go. The past can’t haunt me if I don’t let it. Live and learn and never forget it.” Come on, you see where I’m coming from. The power in these words is miraculous and so very empowering. Kesha has released some incredible music within the past month, and I am ever so excited to see what else is in store for this extraordinary lady.

These are only five empowering songs that have made the beginning of 2017 an incredible year, and there’s so many more out there in store for your ears to hear. As a woman, I am in love with the way these musicians are turning the industry around and into something incredibly moving. These songs will help empower the youth, and change perspective from all around the world. Kudos, to those who have been a part of this moment, and who continue to seek the change this world needs to see: equality in all forms.
