If you are wondering which movie to watch this weekend, I would definitely suggest Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. A movie filled with sarcastic jokes and music as the five guardians travel throughout the galaxy, kicking enemies’ asses. They were quite right claiming it to be one of the most awaited movies of the year. Not only the plot and awesome CGI effects, but this movie is also filled with important life lessons.
Family is not always blood:
They are all different from one another. They came from different places, yet they came together with one goal, guarding the galaxy against evil forces that seek to destroy it. They put aside all of their differences for one thing: each one of them is a guardian of the galaxy and they need each other like a family who sticks to each other no matter what. Of course, a family comes in one package with laughter, sadness, disappointment, and disagreements. But all that matters is that no matter who you are or where you come from when you have found the people who stick with you through the high and low, you don’t give up on them because they will never give up on you.
Marry someone who doesn’t dance like you:
Or like Drax put it:
It doesn’t matter if you and your partner are like water and fire. Maybe you don’t agree with tonight’s dinner menu, or which movie to watch on Netflix. No one in this world is alike (imagine how boring it would be if everyone does and likes the same things as you). Just like a pinch of salt can bring out all the taste. Love comes in a way we never expected and when it comes, open your heart and be ready to accept it.
See the positive in every situation:
You are imprisoned and possibly about to live out your last day in the galaxy. Yeah, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the first thought in Rocket’s mind either. He still had the time to make fun of the eye in a crucial situation. What can we learn from that? Nothing is as bad as it seems, and you can always find your way back. Meanwhile, relax a little.
Never judge people by the book:
I don’t know how else to put this. It’s a movie about a talking, walking tree, a genetically altered talking raccoon, a former hot assassin, a former intergalactic criminal and a half-human becoming an intergalactic superhero team. None of them are exactly like how they look. Rocket had been quite mean to his team in the opening scene, it was his way of hiding his pain because the people who created him had no sense of love and care. All he wanted was to be loved. It’s about how we make peace with our past and embrace our present.
I am Groot (read: Trust is earned):
Trust and honesty are expensive gifts, do not expect it from cheap people. The guardians had gone through so many things together. They are not united by their past experiences but also trust. They valued each other’s thoughts. Just like Rocket trusted Groot with a massive explosive device even though Groot got it wrong every single time, he knew that Groot could do it, and he was right.
Forgiveness and redemption:
We may have made so many mistakes in the past. We may have been hurt or betrayed by our loved ones. Through all that, we get invaluable lessons for life. Quill understood that despite Yondu kidnapping him and threatening to eat him; his adoptive caregiver had always cared for him. Despite all the jealousy, and betrayals between Gamora and her sister Nebula, they didn’t give up on each other. No matter what the situation is, forgiveness and redemption are always at hand. Use it, before it’s too late.
Music will make everything better:
Whether you’re fighting a giant monster from stealing explosive batteries or flying your way throughout the galaxy, music can always make any situation instantly better. Are you feeling gloomy or down? Don’t worry, play your awesome mix vol.2 and dance your way out.
Guardians of the Galaxy is not only a superhero movie, it’s a movie about the bonds between people who are so different yet still together no matter what. Even though the movie was set in a fictional inter-galaxy, we do find people who are so different with us in our everyday walk of life. Some probably will just cross our life, some will stay and make an unforgettable impression. The most important thing we get from this movie is to always cherish everyone in your life and always make peace with your past.
