Celebrities get in relationships as often as they get roles in TV shows and movies. But the real question is who actually gets married and stay together. Not many, obviously. But plenty of celebs still find themselves with a giant rock on their finger, even if they (and the public) know they are doomed from the start based on their differences.
Here are the weirdest celebrity engagements you probably forgot about:
Big Sean & Naya Rivera
This breakup got really sloppy, very fast. Big Sean and Naya were engaged for a year until it ended in 2014, and on the day that they were supposed to be married, she married Ryan Dorsey. She divorced him too, but that is catty.
Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck
Bennifer is quite the throwback couple! They fell madly in love, became engaged in 2002 and called off the engagement just days before their 2003 wedding. They ended up finally breaking up for good in 2004, but the memories still remain. Especially in JLo’s Jenny From the Block music video.

We literally saw them get engaged with our very own eyes when the DJ proposed to her on Twitter in December 2012. It might seem romantic he wanted the world to know, but she also wanted to let the world know of his infidelity, so she called it quite a year later.
Johnny Depp & Winona Ryder
They started dating in 1989 and got engaged 5 months into their relationship. The relationship might have ended in 1993, but Depp’s openly declared his love for his ex, Winona, multiple times since. At least he still has his ‘Winona Forever’ tattoo… That now says “Wino Forever.”
Marilyn Manson & Rose McGowan
Surprisingly they dated for three and a half years and spent most of that time together being engaged. In 2001 McGowan announced she was leaving him due to “lifestyle differences.” Gee, you don’t say why?
Gwyneth Paltrow & Brad Pitt
Ah, the 90’s. A time when Friends was just kicking off, the best fashion was on display, and Gwyneth and Brad were the hottest celebrity couple. They called off the wedding because she wasn’t ready for marriage, you know, being 24 and all. And a year after Brad met Jen. And we all know how that ended.
Zayn Malik & Perrie Edwards
After a year of dating, they managed to get engaged in 2013. Two years later, conveniently right after Zayn announced he was leaving 1D, he broke up with her… Through a text.
Ryan Reynolds & Alanis Morissette
Yeah, you read that correctly. Ryan and Alanis met at Drew Barrymore’s birthday in 2002, got engaged in 2004 and split in 2007. Talk about total opposites, this Canadian couple wasn’t destined to be.
Tara Reid & Carson Daly
Bet you didn’t know they were even a couple, let alone engaged! They met on TRL and became engaged later that year. The engagement didn’t last a year, and they were done by 2001. Surprise, surprise.
I bet you’re still on the fact that Carson Daly was engaged to Tara Reid, but these couples were shocking and doomed from the start. And while any breakup is sad, almost everyone on this list got married to someone else… And maybe even another after that one.
