2017 is almost over (thank God). And while some things have changed for the better, others have only gotten worse or stayed consistent. However, on a positive note, musicians aren’t afraid to tackle the heartaches of millennials with their music, and I have got to say, they nailed the accuracy.
Meant to Be by Bebe Rexha ft.Florida Georgia Line
This one chronicles the male and female minds. I interpret the male vocals provided by FGL as to be the typical guy who just thinks a woman is beautiful and lies to manipulate her into getting with him, while the female part by Rexha is about the girl who has been so damaged she’s become so distant and shy. And as the saying goes, “if it’s meant to be, it’ll be.”
Too Much to Ask – Niall Horan
This song makes you think of the one who got away and the one you keep hopelessly waiting for. “Tell me there are things that you regret, cuz if I’m being honest I ain’t over you yet…” Tell me that line isn’t the most relatable thing you’ve heard in awhile! It’s cute, it’s sad, and it’s relatable AF.
Highschool by Kelsea Ballerini
We all know that one guy from high school that just can’t seem to get out of that phase. He tries the same tricks to get the girl and hasn’t really grown up. Maturity and the lack of change over the years is something we women notice all too well and Ballerini nails it again with a relatable song.
Back to You by Louis Tomlinson ft. Bebe Rexha
Sometimes no matter how hard we we fight with someone or play games, we can’t help but fall back into the same patterns because we can’t get over them. This duet is nothing but true. And because it’s a duet you get both perspectives, which I love! Plus, their voices sound killer together.
Bedroom Floor by Liam Payne
Ex sex, break-up sex, make-up sex, I hate you sex. This is the song that describes it all. “You said it was over, but your clothes say different on my bedroom floor.” Ain’t this the truth!? If you’re done, then why are we banging? You’re only going to come back for more! Ugh, this vicious cycle.
Friends by Justin Bieber and BloodPop
Maybe you just broke up, perhaps it’s been a while. But nothing hits you harder than the “can we be friends?” conversation. And leave it to the Biebs (who is still friends with Selena and apparently trying to change that) to give us the anthem. It covers everything from the, are you singles to the do you miss me to the why do you think there’s an ulterior motive of the dating world. And it’s catchy, so I’ll sing it everytime it plays and for hours after.
Sure, celebrities go through enough drama to last a lifetime, but who says they can’t be semi-normal and have the same experiences? Plus, they will always provide us with some good Instagram captions for our revenge selfies.
