4 Things That Happen When You’re The Offspring Of Two Black Sheep

Most families have a black sheep; this person is usually identified as the outcast when compared with everyone else in the family. Maybe your critically single and the family is concerned you may end up alone or you are the rebel with tattoos. Whatever the case may be, at some point everyone will have a black sheep in their families. But what happens when two black sheep get together and have a child together? Is this kid doomed to be a black sheep as well? Fortunately, I am here to let you know that having black sheep parents makes you an incredibly unique and interesting person. Here are just a few things that happen when both of your parents are black sheep. (Trust me, you are so much more interesting because of it!)

You Aren’t Afraid To Take Chances

Being raised by two black sheep is extremely exciting. Both parents are working their butts off to make sure that you don’t feel isolated or ignored. As a result, they show you the importance of taking chances in life. Being unlike the rest of their family members, kids of black sheep grow up knowing that it is completely okay to want to pursue their dreams. Cultivating a wide imagination is something that comes naturally to children of black sheep.

Unconditional Love Is Always There

When children grow up with two black sheep parents they truly understand the meaning of unconditional love. While all parents usually love their kids, black sheep parents go out of their way to make sure that their children feel like they are loved for exactly who they are. No matter what, parents who happen to be black sheep of their respective families sometimes try to make up for the lack of love they feel they received as children and end up being a little overprotective of their own kids.

Family Is Everything

Growing up with two black sheep parents made me appreciate the importance of family. Because I saw first-hand what it meant to be distant with close relatives. When two black sheep get together there is something magical that happens. The walls of judgment are broken down. As a result, being open and honest in all your relationships is innately part of who you become. While you still may bite your tongue around certain topics when in the company of your extended family, kids of black sheep have an unmistakable open-mind that proves to serve them well in adulthood.

Being Weird Is A Badge Of Honor

As all black sheep can relate, being called weird turns into a beautiful badge of honor. Many so-called black sheep, wear their individuality on their sleeve. They are unafraid and quite frankly, unapologetic about who they are. As a result, they raise their children believing that they are unique and special individuals who deserve to be exactly who they are. No matter what others may say, black sheep parents teach their children the importance of being themselves. As a result, children of black sheep often grow up to be creative and unique adults.

In the end, being a child of two black sheep can be the greatest blessing given to a person. Being unique and different is something everyone should strive to be in the world. Trying to fit in is totally overrated. Instead, stand-out, be unafraid, and always be yourself!

  1. This was incredibly biased and narrowed in on one type of experience.

My parents were black sheep because of their extreme mental health issues. Getting wasted at a children’s party is not going to be great for getting closer to the family.

This line was the most ridiculous: “Both parents are working their butts off to make sure that you don’t feel isolated or ignored.”

Obviously the writer had a childhood full of parental love and is writing in a generalized way based on a very narrow experience.

Another line, “As a result, they show you the importance of taking chances in life. ” Again…no. This article is really…if both your parents are black sheep AND they’re also great parents. None of this is true if you have abusive/mentally ill parents.

None of the above rings true except that I care so much about family and I want to get closer to the family that I never was able to be with.
