25 years ago, Country pop singer and songwriter Shania Twain released her self-titled debut album in 1993. 25 years since a debut album is the minimum amount of years for eligibility to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Queen of Country Pop is now eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the 2019 ceremony.
Shania Twain has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, which makes her one of the best-selling musical acts in history. Her breakthrough in the country music world came when her album, “The Woman in Me” released in 1995 sold over 20 million copies worldwide. Her next album “Come on Over,” released in 1997 went on to sell over 40 million copies worldwide which is the best-selling album by a female act and is one of the top 10 best-selling albums by any musical act in history. Before her hiatus in music, her 4th album “UP!” went on to sell over 20 million copies worldwide leading to Shania having 3 consecutive albums certified Diamond.
Shania Twain has won 5 Grammy Awards in her career. 1 for Best Country Album for “The Woman in Me” in 1996, 2 for her Song “You’re Still the One” with Best Female Country Vocals and Best Country Song in 1999, 1 for best Country Song for “Come on Over” in 2000, and 1 for Best Female Country Vocals for Man! I Feel Like A Woman in 2000. Shania was nominated 18 times for a Grammy award including Song of The Year in 1999 for “You’re Still the One”, losing to Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” “from the Academy Award-winning film Titanic”.
But the question is, are these accomplishments enough for Shania Twain to be inducted?
Some fans, music critics, and music lovers all around the world might say “Yes, Shania should be in the inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” Some might look at her accomplishments. Some might look at the way she’s impacted country music and her successful crossover to pop with the release of “UP!” in 2002. Some might say she’s the Elvis Presley of Country Pop Music or the Madonna of Country Pop Music.
However, others might say she should not be inducted as many people and media outlets consider her one of the most beautiful women in the world. Some will argue that artists in country music don’t belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Does Shania Twain even care if she gets inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or not? Whether it means anything to her or not, I’m sure Shania would be honored to be featured here with some of the greatest musical artists of all time, including Sir Elton John, who she performed You’re Still the One with at one of her shows during her “Come on Over” tour.
Whether Shania gets inducted in her first year of eligibility or not, the Rock Hall committee should at least consider inducting her one day based on her accomplishments and everything she has been through in both her career and her life.
Shania inspired me to become an advocate for Autism Awareness. She is a part of my inspiration in all I do with my life today. If only I could meet her again to tell her all of this.
A lot of people would only like Shania because of her looks. As a fan, that’s the last thing I look at. I think she’s an amazing singer and person regardless of her looks.
She has taught me to follow my dreams and to not give up when I don’t succeed at times.
