Well folks, after 2018 started off with the long, long, list of sexual allegations across Hollywood, it’s still hard to believe some of our faves might’ve done some bad, bad stuff to some innocent people.
This time however, the host and executive producer who’s all-smiles, and all-truths, is being called out. That’s right, Nev Schulman of MTV’s Catfish: The TV Show is on the chopping block. His publicist claims the show host denies all claims and quotes:
“I have always been transparent about my life and would always take responsibility for my actions – but these claims are false.”
The show started it’s latest season earlier this year and abruptly halted all production without word. Yaniv “Nev” Schulman has shared as much of his life story on TV, pages, and social media as he can, and even when some of his actions are questionable (jokes, hugs, speculations, etc) he turns into a teddy bear knowing when they’re wrong.
In Schulman’s book, In Real Life: Love, Lies, & Identity in the Digital Age, he writes about how in 2006 he was “tossed out” of Sarah Lawrence College for punching a girl in the face; turns out, she was short, stocky, hooded, and had crew cut hair so he really had no clue she was a female when she surprised him, but even then, Schulman took responsibility for his actions. The event was a traditional Sarah Lawrence “Sleaze Ball” and the specifics of the moment differ between the book and anonymous accounts, but it’s clear that there was some sort of misunderstanding. This is in no way supporting violence, but knowing he accepted his wrong-doing and punishment openly and didn’t pursue it further may bode well if he remains as truthful as he claims.
The current sexual misconduct accusation may be under investigation for some time. MTV’s spokeperson says “we take these allegations very seriously and we’re working with Critical Content, our third party production company, to conduct a thorough investigation.”
So, who’s the accuser? It appears to be Ayissha Morgan from a Catfish episode in 2015. She alleged that once the shoot was over, Nev tried to proposition her for sex and jacuzzi dates, and that she was sexually assaulted by a female producer. Ayissha says “I was in such an uncomfortable place and a freaking hard time, at my most vulnerable.” People Magazine says Ayissha posted a video about her encounters to raise awareness and to help her find some peace of mind.
Schulman’s wife, the gorgeous Laura Perlongo, has not mentioned anything to the media just yet. The two got married about a year ago and have had the cutest daughter Cleo running around ever since (well, a little while before they got married actually).
Social media is blowing up over these allegations, and nobody really knows what to believe. After Nev has devoted his life to revealing the truth about others after his original Catfish documentary was released, what should we believe?
if the nev schulman thing is real my whole fucking life is a lie
