Summer is undoubtedly one of the best times of year because everything’s so alive and bright. Our moods are enhanced in the most positive ways, our tan makes us feel oddly confident, and the activities you can do are endless because the weather won’t stop you from having fun.
As much as we love summer, we can’t help but feel like we have to be stealthy spies trying to avoid getting a sunburn. This can dampen our plans a bit because we have that thought at the back of our minds.
In case you are super sensitive to the sun or get that accidental burn, you need to be prepared. So I have a few suggestions of how to help with a sunburn.
Water & Vinegar
Soak a face cloth or towel in a mixture of the two products equally (if you can) and place it on the burned skin. Sure, you may smell like a french fry, but the heat of the burn will be gone soon. Plus it’s natural and you more than likely have these products at home.
Menthol Foam Shaving Cream
Leave the foam shaving cream on your burn for 30 minutes and don’t rub it in. Just let it sit on your skin. You may need to reapply after, but it should help reduce the colour and feeling of your burn. Plus it covers a large area so you won’t feel somewhat guilty if you use a lot of it. For the best result, I suggest Gillette men’s foaming menthol (it works the best)!
Vicks Vapour Rub
You might not be sick, but your skin is and needs instant relief. The feeling of Vick’s on your skin will cool it right down and most people who use it also report they don’t peel afterwards. This remedy is perfect to use for smaller spots such as the face, ears, and knees.
Plain Yogurt
Again, it sounds weird (and you might smell delicious), but it works miracles when you are desperate. It’s also perfect for smaller areas so you aren’t wasteful of perfectly yummy yogurt. I don’t recommend eating it off your body, though… that may be a tad weird.
Aloe Vera
This sounds like a no brainer, but some people don’t always have access to it. It helps with instant relief and cools your skin within seconds once you bear the initial pain. I have plants at home (which I highly recommend you invest in) and cream depending on how large the area is to cover so I’ll always be comfortable with the amount I apply.
I know these sound a little unusual, but they are super accessible in the sense you should have some of these at home or could easily get them at the store. Plus they can help you cover different sizes of skin, too, so the guilt of wasting things won’t hurt as much as your burn does (let’s be real, we all have those thoughts).
Stay cool this summer, wear sunscreen, and have these easy products accessible to ensure you feel your best (and look it) for the next few days.
