During last night’s MTV VMA’s fans were delighted with the announcement that The Hills is coming back to MTV! That’s right folks, the rest is still unwritten… Until now!
And we have our first introduction to The Hills: New Beginnings here!
New Beginnings will apparently be about “the original cast members, their children, and friends as they follow their personal and professional lives” and will even star a mystery celebrity and two bloggers according to Us Weekly.
Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt, Audrina Patridge, Justin Bobby, Frankie Delgado and Stephanie Pratt were all seen at the VMAs on last nights red carpet to help make the special announcement.
Vulture reports that Heidi and Spencer, Stephanie, Justin Bobby, Jason Whaler, their spouses and offspring will return for a new series to “carry on the Hills legacy.”
Kristin Cavallari, who is currently starring in her own E! reality series Very Cavallari, will not be returning to the series, as well as Whitney Port, who also landed her own spin off after her run on The Hills ended.
Fan favourite Lauren Conrad will also not be returning for the reboot.
A source close to the star told People, “She’s in a different place in her life,” the source says. “But she wants everyone to enjoy themselves. She wishes everyone the best.”
Lauren is currently busy raising 13-month old son Liam Tell, running her LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s collection, is a New York Times bestselling author of nine books, co-owns a website and brand along with Hannah Skvarla, The Little Market, a nonprofit marketplace that is about to have a store open in Pacific Palisades, California, in September.
“She loves being a mother and focusing on her family and on her work,” the source says. “She has a very full and happy life.”
Needless to say she’s too busy to film a show and is probably over the childish drama. I’m not surprised she isn’t returning.
Other stars who were not at the awards last night and have yet to confirm their appearance on the new show include Lo Bosworth and Brody Jenner.
My only thought about these two are: everybody needs a friend like Lo, how could she not be on the show!? And for Brody, I don’t expect to come back since he just got married and has stayed fairly out of the public eye since his dad Caitlin Jenner’s nasty split with ex-wife Kris Jenner. Why would he want to go back on TV with a ton of people he hooked up with and fought with?
However, it is rumored that Brody is in talks with production to join on for the new series!
It’s been 12 years since the Laguna Beach spinoff aired and it arguably changed the face of reality TV forever, and 8 years since we last saw the cast. A lot has changed in their personal lives and they’ve probably moved on from reality TV for the sake of their personal relationships.
How do I think it’ll go with including children in the show and as part of the storyline? I honestly don’t know, but if producers do it the right way I’m sure it could be equally as successful as before. Maybe with a lot less drama (hopefully Justin Bobby hasn’t changed because that was one of the most relatable storylines on the show.)
The premiere date will be in 2019, and I cannot wait until more information becomes available!

I am ashamed of how excited I am about this.
