It’s officially award season for movies and television! In fact, the award show committee announced nominations for the 77th Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton hotel this morning at 5:00 am PST.
Not surprisingly, Noah Baumbach’s Netflix drama, Marriage Story, came out a clear winner. In fact, the divorce story starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson racked up a whopping 6 nominations. The Irishman and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood came in just slightly behind with five nominations apiece.
Although none of those nominations shocked us, several noms stunned movie critics and the general public alike. But how did Little Women only earn two nominations total? Also, many predictions assumed Robert Di Niro would surely receive a nom for his role in The Irishman, yet that seemed to be the one place where the film didn’t make the cut.
The animated film category also ended up with some surprises, most notably The Lion King and Missing Link, neither of which were slated to be on the list by most prediction critics.
Here are some of the film nominations:

Additionally, on the television side, Chernobyl, The Crown and Unbelievable came out on top with four nominations each. Furthermore, TV newcomer The Morning Show helped Apple TV+ earn its first award nominations ever. In fact, the series scored three total awards: Best Drama Series, and actress noms for Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.
But where the heck is Game Of Thrones? More so, where is NBC’s This Is Us? Finally, why isn’t Sandra Oh on the list again this year for her role in Killing Eve? Obviously many predicted all three of these to walk away big winners, yet Game Of Thrones seems to be a mere memory and the other two are nowhere to be found.
