Finally, the grandest award show of them all: The Academy Awards. More commonly known as The Oscars, the 92nd show did not disappoint in terms of the winners, performances and the star factor. For some they came for a good time, while others conquered in their categories. But the fashion choices made by the wide variety of stars were truly what stole the show.
Rounding up the final fashion moments of award season, the red carpet choices were truly star studded and a mixture of their individuality. There were a lot of unique looks, different structures and hot new trends we haven’t seen before, which made the show extremely entertaining from start to finish.
So let’s dive in, shall we?
Best Dressed At The Oscars
Scarlett Johansson
ScarJo can literally do nothing wrong on any red carpet, including at The Oscars. And even though she didn’t take home the award, she still looked as stunning as one. You know, even if you can’t bring home a physical Oscar, at least she could wear one home (since her dress is Oscar de la Renta, after all).
Regina King
She may have played a fairy God mother in 2002’s A Cinderella Story, but tonight she was the belle of the ball in this Versace gown. It’s semi simple, but so dainty and elegant. The unique shape and minimal details on the boddess with the flair of a train make this dress so much grander.
Brightest Babes At The Oscars
Florence Pugh
Florence officially has made a name for herself in this show stopping dress. The colour of this dress is so unique that it almost looks like the lighting changes the tones when she moves. And for the first time in years we finally saw a young starlet have fun on a red carpet- which made for better pictures in the long run.
Mindy Kailing
She’s a ray of sunshine in yellow, isn’t she? I love that Mindy always selects bright colours that make her bright smile pop. There isn’t a colour she can’t wear. Oh, and she was styled by Meghan Markle’s BFF Jessica Mulroney- she was meant to look like royalty.
Best Capes Of This Year’s Oscars
Natalie Portman
From the oversized cape to the intricate details, this look is as unique as Portman herself. She also chose to have a higher neckline on her dress, which gave the designers more room to create a beautifully intricate detail throughout the front of the dress. I am so in love with this look!
Brie Larson
The silhouette of this gown still stands out despite slightly being hidden by this cape, but Brie really shines in this sparkly number. I also loved that she had minimal jewelry and went with a very nude and natural make up look to help polish this look up.
Best Babes In Blue At The 2020 Oscars
Margot Robbie
There isn’t a best dressed list she is rarely on, and The Oscars is no exception. It’s simple, elegant, feminine and so flawlessly stunning. Robbie’s choices never disappoint and always seem to fit her relaxed and laid back approach to life. She seems comfortable and confident, that’s all we could ask for.
Kristin Cavallari
Working the red carpet as part of E!’s red carpet panel, Kristin looked better than some of the stars that were attending the awards. Again, this dress proves that simple structure and a different colour can really help you stand out in all the right ways.
Biggest Ball Gowns At The 2020 Oscars
Cynthia Erivo
This white number really makes her the belle of the ball. Her fashion game has been strong all awards season and I’m thrilled she ended award season on a high note both figuratively and literally. Did you see her performance? You really should.
Janelle Monae
I am loving the unique hood action on this sparkly number. She brought down the house with her opening song and even worked through a relatable wordrobe malfunction- only to return back to this gorgeous gown. Whether it’s a hat or a hood, she makes accessorizing seem so cool.
Wonder Women in White Of The Oscars
Salma Hayek Pinault
This Grecian-inspired gown is absolutely stunning and something a little refreshing for what we are used to seeing on the red carpet. The hair piece and matching accessories really top of the look and I am so glad she took this risk for the occasion.
Renee Zellwegger
I know she’s just getting back into acting and the fashion world after a lengthy hiatus, but it doesn’t seem like she’s missed a beat with this gorgeous choice. This Best Actress winner deserves all the praise and more from last night’s Oscars!
And of course, we couldn’t forget the best after party looks, because there were so damn many! So here are our top three looks from the Vanity Fair after party.
Best Oscars After Party Looks
Vanessa Hudgens
Chrissy Teigen
Jessica Alba
The Academy Awards has a reputation to withhold and despite having a strict dress code (like men must wear bow ties and women cannot have too much cleavage or see through dresses), I think that’s why their red carpet results always look the best. Not to sound old fashioned, but everyone just looks so classy and really lets the outfits do the talking for them. It’s refreshing not to see the same nude dresses that barely cover anything.
Sadly, now we must wait a few months until any more award shows occur, so that means we won’t be getting a close look at any of the stars dolled up like this for a while. But at least we were given some great fashion moments while it lasted.
Congratulations to all of the nominees, winners, and anyone on this Oscars Best Dressed list! You all deserved the recognition!
