Directioners, rejoice! It appears that 1D might save 2020!
On day 1,580 since One Direction went on hiatus, band member Liam Payne announced on social media that the lads are planning something special to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the band’s formation.
Payne told The Sun:
‘We’ve got a ten-year anniversary coming up, so we’ve all been speaking together a lot over the last few weeks, which has been really nice.”
He continued: “To hear a lot of people’s voices and [see] old content and different things that we haven’t seen for a long time or [have] never seen before, it’s very interesting.”
Sadly Liam didn’t provide too many details (because this could be the biggest thing since the band’s formation on July 23rd, 2010), but he did hint that fans could expect “a number of different things” from the group.
And of course, the reaction online has been explosive, to say the least. Proud fans sprang back into action, showing their support, sharing excitement, and bringing back old memories from our teenage years.
I’ll always be ready for this.
Ain’t this the truth…
I’m a grown woman, but I’ll still need financial assistance from my mother in order to see the band.
Bust out your fine China (AKA the birthday party kits that stores sold when the band first came out!)
I think I would just about die…
Seriously, this isn’t even real, but it still makes my heart flutter…
We don’t even need an excuse to initiate breaking records. It just happens.
Popular unpopular opinion: Out of all of the One Direction members, Zayn had the best high notes. I dare you to argue otherwise.
And of course, people are making the most creative video compilations, and they’re giving us the feels.
Everybody remembers when the band sang this song on X-Factor? I wonder if they’re going to play “Spin The Harry” next?
It’s been almost 10 years and counting…
You’d be lying if you said you had a favourite 1D song.
I feel like this is exactly how a 1D reunion video would go.
You know, this is probably what’s going to happen, but I’ll never let my optimism fade!
Sadly, I don’t think we’ll get many details for quite some time, but Liam’s announcement is a little bit of light during this dark time. It’s also unsure if Zayn Malik will return, since he was the first member to leave the band in the middle of their tour in early 2015. Hopefully he’ll come back because it’s not a true reunion if the fab 5 aren’t together.
Since their hiatus, all five One Direction members have released at least one album each (Harry Styles and Niall Horan both just released their second respective albums) and continue to dominate charts and award shows. Louis Tomlinson has also been photographed with his former bandmates at professional events and has spoken fondly of his days as a “boy bander.”
Regardless of whether or not the band reunites, we should all appreciate Liam Payne for bringing One Direction to our lives, even if it’s only for a night. But we’re all looking forward to what this summer has to offer!
It’s an Easter/COVID-19/2020 miracle!
