The 2021 Met Gala took place Monday night in New York, and the world’s biggest stars were dressed to impress. The annual event, put on by longtime Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour in support of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, is typically held on the first Monday in May but was rescheduled due to the pandemic.
The theme of this year’s soirée, which was hosted by actor Timothée Chalamet, musician Billie Eilish, poet Amanda Gorman and tennis star Naomi Osaka, was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”
Here are some of the most iconic looks from fashion’s biggest night!
Social Stars
A slew of social media stars made their mark as first-timers at the Met Gala.
YouTube sensation Emma Chamberlin wore a gold, cutout Louis Vuitton number with chain detailing that was equal parts classy and daring.
TikTok star Addison Rae teased her look on social media beforehand with images of Cindy Crawford, Julia Roberts, Britney Spears, and Kate Moss in iconic red dresses over the years. The 20-year-old He’s All That star drew inspiration from these Hollywood stars and wore red vintage Gucci by Tom Ford.
Gorman, who went viral on social media after reading her poem on Inauguration Day, walked her first Met carpet in a gorgeous, blue Vera Wang gown covered with over 3,000 crystals, which was inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night and The Statue of Liberty.
Seeing Double
There was a lot of fabulous fashion on Monday night, but some looks had us seeing double.
Kate Hudson wore a beautiful, pink Michael Kors two-piece ensemble with a stunning feathered coat with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Fellow actor Sienna Miller rocked a similar pale pink Gucci dress, topped with a faux fur coat.
Irina Shayk hit the carpet with Jeremy Scott wearing this floral Moschino dress that looked almost identical to Lili Reinhart’s gown that featured the official flowers of all 50 states.
Kendall Jenner and Zoe Kravitz both served barely there, beaded realness on Monday. The supermodel wore a sheer Givenchy Haute Couture gown, while the Big Little Lies actor opted for a little netting courtesy of Yves Saint Laurent.
Razzle Dazzle
It was all about the sparkle and shine at this year’s Met Gala, and these stars understood the assignment.
Saweetie gave us hip hop royalty vibes with this jaw-dropping, asymmetrical, ombré Christian Cowan gown that featured two shimmering, iridescent panels: one in red, white, blue, and yellow, and one in red and black to represent both the colors of the Filipino flag and the Black American flag.
Yara Shahidi’s custom strapless Christian Dior gown, embroidered with intricate beading and paired with elbow-length gloves, a braided cap, and a diamond choker was inspired by iconic American-French entertainer Josephine Baker.
Aiesha and Steph Curry were good as gold on the Met carpet. The Ayesha’s Home Kitchen star turned heads in a diamond-embellished Atelier Versace dress, while her NBA star husband rocked a navy blue blazer with an intricate jewel-adorned design on the sleeves and back of the blazer.
Co-host Keke Palmer was breathtaking in this sexy, golden Sergio Hudson dress. While hosting, she said the look was inspired by Diana Ross.
Ozark star Julia Garner rocked this mesh Stella McCartney gown covered with 132,240 Swarovski crystals — but who’s counting!
Big And Bold
The bigger and bolder, the better!

Haliee Steinfeld rocked a blonde bob and a wispy Iris Van Herpen couture dress.
Supermodel Karlie Kloss was red hot in this Carolina Herrera dress with huge shoulder ruffles fashioned to look like rose petals and a plunging neckline.
Eilish paid homage to Marilyn Monroe in this show-stopping gown by Oscar de la Renta, who agreed to cut all fur licenses after the singer agreed to wear the brand. She also rocked 13 pieces of Cartier jewelry, the most pieces by the jeweler that any one person has worn in one sitting.
Tennis superstar Naomi Osaka wore a statement-making Louis Vuitton ensemble that was a nod to her Haitian and Japanese heritages.
