6 Tips For Maintaining Soft And Healthy Skin During Winter

Skincare is an integral part of taking care of your beauty and health. But the wintertime can totally throw your skin for a loop no matter who you are. Luckily, there are so many ways to protect your skin from the dry and chilled winter air.

If you want to maintain soft, healthy skin throughout the winter, there are a few habits that you develop. Here are some tips that can help you throughout the chilly season.

1. Always Moisturize

You may already know this if you’re a bonafide skincare junkie. But in case you don’t, it’s always important to moisturize, no matter what skin type you have — yes, even those with oily skin. In fact, those who struggle with excess oil and sebum may need to moisturize even more to prevent the overproduction of oil caused by dryness in the air.

2. Use Lip Balm

Your lips are just as much a part of your skin as the rest of your face, so don’t let them fall by the wayside! You don’t want to deal with chapped, dry, or cracked lips, so make sure you keep a lip balm on you at all times.

3. Stay Hydrated

Even though simply drinking water isn’t enough to revolutionize your skin, staying hydrated can help prevent dryness and dehydration, especially during the colder months. If you tend to struggle with skin dehydration, discoloration, and redness, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day to prevent this.

4. Keep Wearing SPF

It might seem like a no-brainer to put the sunscreen away once the weather gets cold. But that impulse might not be as valid as you think it might be. Even in the winter, you should use sunscreen with SPF 30 every day to protect your skin from harmful rays. This is especially important if you know you’re going to be outside or in direct sunlight. After all, UV rays don’t quit, even when the weather is cold.

5. Don’t Take Hot Showers

Hot showers seem like the perfect thing to soothe your muscles in the wintertime when you’re just coming in from the bitter cold. But unfortunately, your skin might disagree. In fact, taking scalding hot showers can dry out your skin and cause damage. So try keeping the water moderately warm instead. You can still experience relaxation, even if it isn’t burning hot.

6. Eat Healthy Fats

When it comes to your diet, healthy fats can be great for the protection and elasticity of your skin, which everyone needs a little more in the wintertime. There are so many fruits and vegetables that can contribute to this, like avocados! If you tend to eat more carbs and protein, then the winter might be the right time to add some healthy fat to your diet.

There are so many things that you can do to keep your skin healthy and glowing over the winter. From the way you eat and drink to the moisturizer and sunscreen you use, try different ways to keep your winter skin as healthy as ever. Do you use any of these tips already?
