Fashion changes over any period of time, quickly or slowly. However, there are some pieces that will always be in style and important pieces of one’s wardrobe. Here are five versatile pieces every woman should have in her wardrobe.
1. Light Layering Options
One of the best ways to make your wardrobe versatile is to choose light fabrics that can layer easily. If you choose layering pieces in various fabrics, styles and colors, you’ll have a more varied wardrobe with fewer individual pieces. For example, you can wear a merino wool base layer women’s exercise top primarily as the innermost layer of an exercise outfit. This top could also function as a normal shirt under a jacket or cardigan.
2. A Blazer
Many think of blazers as clothing items worn in business settings, but that isn’t the only place you can wear them. The right blazer can work in casual, professional, and formal settings. You can layer it over jeans and a t-shirt to tie together a casual look. It can be worn over a dress or a tailored button-down and dress pants for when you go into the office or to a formal event such as a wedding or graduation.
3. The Right Outerwear for Your Climate
There is no single right piece of outerwear suitable for every person. However, finding a jacket or coat that suits your climate and will last a long time will do great things for your wardrobe. The best thing you can do is choose a classic, staple item, such as a peacoat or trench coat because these items are far less likely to go out of style after a year or two than other types of jackets and coats. Look for one in a neutral color so you can wear it over all or most of your existing wardrobe.
4. A Little Black Dress
Like the blazer, the right little black dress works for casual outings or at formal and professional functions. Every woman’s wardrobe should contain a little black dress. The nice thing about this item of clothing is that the only requirement is that it needs to be black. Black is a good color because it’s neutral, so you can pair it with almost all other colors, and because it’s appropriate for functions as diverse as weddings and funerals, unlike a brighter or lighter color. You can choose a dress in any cut or style, including A-line, empire waist, t-shirt, midi, maxi and mini, as long as it’s black. This dress can be paired with cardigans, jackets, blazers, tights and leggings, or worn on its own.
5. Comfortable Jeans
Having at least one pair of jeans you like and feel comfortable in may seem obvious, but it’s still important. Denim has been a wardrobe mainstay for a very long time, and there are as many styles, cuts and colors to choose from as there are for the little black dress. Like both the little black dress and the blazer, jeans can be dressed up or down, though they still aren’t appropriate attire for formal or most professional settings. Look for a pair of jeans that flatter your body. For example, skinny jeans have been popular for many years, but don’t think you need to get a pair for that reason alone. If straight-leg, bootcut, or flared jeans are more flattering for your body type, choose those.
All of these pieces are versatile as part of your wardrobe, able to be dressed up or down and mixed and matched as needed. However, there are also many choices to pick from for each item, including fit, style, color and fabric. You can choose the pieces you prefer and that will work best with your existing wardrobe.
