Drama seems to be in the air these days. In case you haven’t heard, Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans are going through their own drama right now, and boy is it good.
If you don’t know who Kelsea and Morgan are, they’re country singers. They started dating in March 2016, got engaged in December 2016, and got married in December 2017. And in August of 2022, the couple revealed that they were in the process of getting divocred. This shocked their fans. No one really knew why the couple was splitting, but it was easy to see that it was difficult for both parties to announce this to the press.
In October of 2022, Evans released a song called “Over for You” in regards to the divorce. The heartbreaking song gave us a small insight into the split but also demonstrated negative feelings toward Ballerini. Check out the song here.
Some speculation from fans occured, but there wasn’t much from Kelsea’s end of the story. That was until Valentine’s day, which was when Kelsea released an EP Rolling Up the Welcome Mat. It contains five songs addressing her relationship with Evans, along with a short film. The song “Mountain With A View” was a response to Evans’ single in which Kelsea sings “I think that this is when it’s over for me.” And let me just say, it definitely gave an insight into what might have really gone down with the divorce.
Over the past few weeks, things have been slowly starting to add up. And not to be biased, but it doesn’t place Evans in the brightest light.
Since the release of the EP, Kelsea has been featured on the podcast “Call Her Daddy” (you can check it out here on Spotify). There, she revealed that, during a point in their marriage, she was at a low point and needed Evans. She asked him to fly to her, bought him the ticket, but he didn’t show (check out the clip here!).
But probably the biggest thing to happen since the EP’s release was when Kelsea performed her song “Blindsided” on SNL. And boy, did Kelsea deliver! Toward the end of her performance, she began to improvise, and it shocked the audience.
Singing “Now you’re singin’ it loud on the radio like you’re the only heart that breaks/ You would’ve searched the whole world over? Yeah, sure, OK” definitely referenceed Evans’ song in which he states “I would have searched the whole world over for you. Took a flight, through the night. To be that shoulder for you” (which is funny because we now know he didn’t take the flight!).
Fans were ecstatic over the performance and cheered Kelsea on, loving her new catchphrase “Yeah. Sure. OK,” which she has now had made into merch.
It’s safe to say the performance was a hit. And many of us are #TeamBallerini, which I can’t blame people for.
Other than that, Kelsea continues to live her life and be the star we’ve known her to be. She started dating Outer Banks actor Chase Stokes and is living life the best she can. I don’t think this is the end of the news about Ms. Ballerini, though. I have a feeling this is just the start of her career, and I can’t wait to see how far she goes.
