Many people believe that what’s happening in the cosmos and the astrology world can impact our thoughts, emotions, and reasoning. When a planet is in retrograde, it can appear to be moving backward even though that’s not the case. Usually, when Mercury is said to be in retrograde, it’s associated with periods of turmoil and interruptions in people’s lives. In 2023, we will experience a total of four Mercury retrogrades, two of which have already occurred, and the third is projected to start on August 23.
According to a Yahoo News article, this is what we can expect from the round scheduled later this month: “The trickster planet will make us feel as though the weight of the world is on our shoulders because the mutable sign Virgo is latching onto the emotions of others. We may feel things that aren’t true or about us. Energy is contagious — so it’s important to protect yours at this time by consciously deciding who and what you want to engage with.”
What does this mean for you, and how can you prepare?
An article from Astrostyles suggests taking this August retrograde to pay closer attention to details and check how judgmental you are. Think of it as doing research and finding the best solutions rather than acting without thinking.
What other practices can help you stay grounded?
Practice staying in the now by keeping a gratitude journal and doing things that increase your focus. Try spending time in nature, meditating, or dividing tasks into smaller, digestible pieces. Offer a kind word to a friend who may also be experiencing some disruption. Utilize crystals and essential oils to create a calmer, more peaceful space.
What are some “Dos” and “Don’ts” during retrograde?
An article from USA Today had some good ideas. For example, avoid making big life changes or finalizing any agreements. This Mercury retrograde is a great time for meditation and revision, not for execution. So, be sure to take it slow.
This could also be good to sit down and do a mid-year goal-setting analysis. Review what you hoped to accomplish during the calendar year and then decide if any goals need to be tweaked. Find opportunities to check in with your support system and reflect together.
Most importantly, remember that this is only temporary; shortly after the retrograde starts, it will be over. In fact, it ends on September 15, and we can all work towards re-establishing a sense of comfort and normalcy when that happens. Some people may not feel a direct impact from planetary retrogrades, whereas others may feel complex interruptions. No matter what, lean on your support systems, incorporate healthy coping mechanisms, and avoid any unnecessary stressors.
