When thrifting, we always think of purchasing secondhand clothing. However, you can purchase many more items from such stores. Today, August 17, is National Thrift Shop Day, so why not celebrate and check out other thrift store finds? Check out these five items to buy in thrift stores other than clothes:
1. Film cameras
Do you love photography? Many thrift shops sell film cameras for a low price. Film cameras have gained more popularity these days, as there is something special about developing your own film and the aesthetic it comes with. Many thrift shops have a wide selection of cameras, ranging from Brownie cameras to film SLRs. So instead of purchasing them from a camera store, go to your local thrift shop for better deals.
2. Vintage toys
If you need new toys, the thrift store can offer some of the best choices. These shops sell toys ranging from train sets to cars. Some of them even feature our old Disney friends. If you want to grab a toy to commemorate your childhood or share with a loved one, feel pop by a local thrift shop.
3. Books
Forget Indigo or Chapters: To search for some good reads, visit the book aisle in your local thrift store. They usually sell books for lower prices. Plus, some thrift stores may even offer a small selection of college textbooks. You can save a lot if you find a textbook for your course.
4. Holiday decor
Spooky season is right around the corner. If you don’t want to splurge on an IKEA trip, buy some Halloween decor at your local Value Village or Goodwill. Just like with other items, thrift shops usually offer a wide variety of decor, many of which come from different eras. So, if you want to do a Halloween party based on a specific decade, you know where to go.
5. Glassware
If you need new dishes for the house, consider purchasing some glassware from a thrift store. A whole set of dishes can cost less than expected. Plus, you can buy some glass bowls and cups to complement the collection. Then, you’ll have a very fancy-looking kitchen.
Next time you visit a thrift store, keep an eye out for these five items. Remember to look through the whole store and inspect the items before purchasing them. Although it may be challenging to find the perfect item in the thrift store, you’ll find something for you. After all, National Thrift Shop Day teaches us that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Thanks for the useful article. Yes, nowadays many people try to save money and buy used things rather than new ones. Commission stores sell not only clothes, toys, and home appliances, but even books. I love to read, and this is great news for me. I found a bookstore where I can buy used books online https://booksrun.com/books/buy, it allows me to read more and save my budget 🙂
