Spooky season is coming soon, so you probably want some ideas for a fun Halloween costume. But did you know you can make your own costume using items from your own closet? Check out these eight ideas for Halloween costumes by shopping in your closet:
1. Classy Vampire
This costume may seem difficult, but it’s actually easier than expected. Grab a black business suit (or black blouse and black dress pants) and red lipstick. Once you finish dressing yourself, go to the mirror and smear on some lipstick.
2. The Grudge
Feel like going to the extreme? Consider dressing like the Grudge for Halloween. If you have a beige, white, or any light-colored dress in your wardrobe, put that on. Then, add layers of eyeliner around your eyes and smudge them as much as possible. To finish the look, part your hair to the side, making sure some hair strands cover one eye. You’ll be ready to trick or treat in no time.
3. Black Swan Costume
You can also choose to be the black swan for Halloween. Grab your little black dress, some makeup palettes, and a claw clip or tiara. Begin by choosing a fancy black dress and applying some foundation. Then, add the eyeliner and dark eyeshadow, creating a wing shape. Finish off your look with a claw clip, and you’ll be the scariest ballerina out there.
4. Annabelle Doll
To make this costume, you’ll need a white dress and a red belt or ribbon to tie in the middle. For the shoes, choose between a pair of loafers, Doc boots, or high heels. Then, add some pigtails for the hair. Now you can head out the door.
5. Team Varsity Emo Outfit
For a unique costume idea, consider combining two of the opposite worlds from high school; jocks and emos. Get a black varsity jacket and matching pants, and spin together an outfit. Then, add some dark eyeshadow and eyeliner. You’ll now rep team emo — just in a different way.
6. RIP Schoolgirl Outfit
Similar to the dark academia aesthetic, give the dark school-girl outfit a try. To begin, get a plaid skirt and a black blouse. Finish the outfit with some Doc Martens or flats. And remember to wear heavy eyeliner and black lipstick for the makeup. And don’t forget: the messier the makeup, the better the outfit.
7. Scary Nurse Outfit
If you want a very simple costume in the healthcare field, look for the following: a turquoise, dark blue, or pink t-shirt and matching pants. As long as they match, people can easily mistake them for scrubs. Top off the costume with red stains from paint and a reusable mask. You’ll then look like you walked out of a hospital.
8. Witch Teacher
Don’t want to dress up as an ordinary witch? Try dressing as a witch teacher instead. You’ll need a black fedora and a long black dress to start this look off. Next, apply some black lipstick. Then revamp an old used diary: Cover the front and back pages with back construction paper and write the words “The Witch’s Guide.” Remember to carry this book with you, especially when trick-or-treating.
As they say, a little creativity goes a long way. Try these eight ideas and see which ones work best for you. But you can go beyond that; do not be afraid to experiment. Overload the outfit with makeup and continue to mix and match your outfits.
