Happy New Year! After a cozy holiday season full of reading by the fire, it’s time to start those reading challenges for 2024. Luckily, I’ve gotten a sneak-peek at some of my favorite authors’ upcoming books for the year. Check them out!
1. Interesting Facts About Space – Emily Austin (February 2024)
This story follows Enid, the most anxious person in the galaxy. She stumbles through her first loves, family struggles, and the fear that something in the universe is out to get her. If you haven’t gotten on the Emily Austin hype yet, you should definitely read her other books this month before this novel drops! Austin’s marketing recently described her as “making lesbians feel anxious since 2021,” and that one statement is better than any description I could offer you of Austin’s amazing stories.
2. This Love – Lotte Jeffs (February 2024)
Mae and Ari met at university and became a power couple unlike any other. Over the next 10 years, their relationship grows and evolves as Mae and Ari fight their own personal battles. A queer “One Day,” “This Love” is a stunning story about friendship, love, and chosen families. Jeffs also represents queer and trans people with grace and kindness, so this book is a must-read if you’re looking for characters who truly represent you.
3. We Rip The World Apart – Charlene Carr (March 2024)
A sweeping multi-generational story joins the lives of three women. Murder, mysteries, and motherhood all change the trajectories of these women’s fates as they deal with the consequences of the past and the promise of the future. Carr writes in a tender, authentic way that hits hard and will leave you bawling into your book.
4. Medea – Rosie Hewlett (March 2024)
A retelling of one of a popular Greek legend, “Medea” follows the classic story of a woman scorned. Her family shuns her, her husband betrays her, and strangers fear her on her journey into darkness. I can’t wait to see how Hewlett tackles this epic tale of revenge and retribution.
5. Alien Clay – Adrian Tchaikovsky (March 2024)
A political activist with dreams of seeing the stars finds himself doing just that–unfortunately, on one of Earth’s off-world labor camps on Kiln. But if the protagonist of “Alien Clay” can survive both the harsh labor and the inhospitable climate, he can make discoveries he’d never imagined. Bestselling author Tchaikovsky writes science fiction in a detailed, descriptive, high-concept, deeply original way. This book is sure to be a hit! Fingers crossed for another movie adaptation!
6. Bodies – Christie Ann Foley (July 2024)
I adore stories with unique storytelling styles, so this book has definitely earned a place on my watchlist. Protagonist Charlotte narrates “Bodies” as she explores the relationships of her past and the marks that each past love left on her. Expect an intriguing storytelling perspective from Foley!
7. How Can I Help You – Laura Sims (July 2024)
Two librarians in a quiet town find themselves intertwined after a library patron mysteriously dies. One of the protagonists has a hidden life full of dark secrets, and the other will find answers to this mystery at any cost. This book is perfect for mystery and thriller fans, and it’s sure to bring the drama to your summer reading list!
No matter what type of books you enjoy most, 2024 is sure to deliver stories with intriguing plots, compelling characters, and plenty of twists and turns. Happy reading, everyone!
