Well, fear not; university campuses are a great option to visit in your spare time, even if you’re not an incoming student at the specific institution. There are many places to eat and many buildings to explore.

1. University of Guelph

The University of Guelph is home to one of the most beautiful university campuses (which I have explicitly visited). There are picturesque and old-fashioned buildings everywhere – you literally feel as if you’re walking through a gothic fairytale. 

For nature lovers, the university also has a trail near the residence on its campus. The trail leads to a secret garden known as the Arboretum, where you’ll see plenty of flowers, shrubbery bushes, and beautiful statues. 

2. University of Waterloo

You probably have heard rumors about how the University of Waterloo does not necessarily have the best campus life. But this is far from the truth. When you step foot on campus, you’ll notice how gigantic the University of Waterloo actually is. 

They have a lively student center and a welcome center, which directs guests to areas around the campus. Walking alongside the outskirts of campus, you’ll notice a trail around a pond. But there’s a slight warning – beware of the geese poop. 

3. McMaster University

McMaster University combines the old with the new. On campus, you’ll see plenty of old, gothic architecture which reflects the past. Then, you’ll see plenty of new buildings, including the engineering building. 

McMaster University, located in Hamilton, is a perfect day trip destination. The campus is easily walkable, and plenty of restaurants and parks are nearby, making it convenient for visitors to explore the area. Whether you’re a nature lover or a foodie, McMaster University has something for everyone. 

4. Western University 

With its stunning architecture, Western University is a testament to its rich history. The McIntosh Gallery, an art gallery on campus, is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. The campus also houses a variety of other facilities and athletic buildings, such as University College, which add to its charm and appeal. 

Western University is not just a beautiful campus; it’s also surrounded by natural beauty. The university is close to several parks, such as Gibbons Park and Waldorf Park, which offer a peaceful retreat from the bustling campus life. There’s also a lake nearby, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic. 

5. Lakehead University 

Lakehead is a newer university with newer architecture and buildings than the other universities listed above. However, the campus is full of wonders for students who enjoy nature. 

Outside the campus, there is a lake surrounded by trees and trails, giving it a Northern Ontario vibe. It’s a perfect place for Instagram photos in the fall and winter.
