Let’s Celebrate Our Feline Friends In Honor Of National Kitten Day

Who in the world doesn’t adore cute, small kittens? Their shiny eyes, little pink noses and paws, and cute mewling sounds can make even the toughest person melt! Their cuteness is truly irresistible! A kitty’s warmth forces us to keep them close and snuggle all day. We cannot deny that dogs are our most loyal companions, but a little kitten is just too cute to resist. So, let’s celebrate the adorns and cuteness of these fur balls. And what can be a better occasion to do this than National Kitten Day?

National Kitten Day is the most awaited and pawsome day in every cat parent’s calendar. And obviously, what could be better than dedicating 24 hours to these cuddly babies by pampering and snuggling these cute balls of energy?

Colleen Paige, an author, animal advocate, and pet and family lifestyle specialist, founded National Kitten Day in 2012 to promote adoption and honor kittens’ happiness. The day was initially observed in December for the first two years in a row but was later moved to July 10. This change was made to align the day with the peak kitten season when many shelters are overwhelmed with kittens in need of homes. The basic intention of this day is to encourage people to adopt cats from shelters rather than buying them since so many animals are being abandoned.

So, how can you celebrate the National Kitten Day?

These little furry animals quickly and effortlessly find their way into our hearts. So, on this special day, we should consider showering them with love and pampering them.

There are different ways in which you can make the most of this National Kitten Day and keep your feline friend purrfectly healthy and happy.

1. Adopt or foster

Many animals are abandoned and left on roads or in the wild. Rather than buying a kitty, you can adopt from rescues and shelter homes. Before adoption, consider your lifestyle, family preferences, budget, and other pets, if you have any. If you cannot afford the adoption, work on helping in the adoption process and spending time with this little bundle of joy.

2. Fulfill your kitten’s nutritional needs

Kittens’ nutritional needs vary as they grow. With age, they require different amounts of nutrition. It’s important to fulfill these nutritional needs to keep your kitty healthy.

  • In the initial 1-4 weeks, mother’s milk or special commercial milk replacement formula is required at intervals of 2 to 4 hours.
  • During 3-5 weeks, warm formula mixed with high-quality canned or dried kitten food is ideal and should be served 4 to 6 times a day.
  • From 5 to 8 weeks of age, start administering a protein-rich, energy-filled diet at least 3 to 4 times daily.
  • After six months, you should feed them 2 to 3 times daily.

3. Schedule timely vaccinations

Regularly vaccinate your kitty and take them for timely vet checkups to ensure they stay healthy.

4. Get your cat dewormed

It is crucial to safeguard your baby from worms, and the best way to do this is by regularly deworming your kitty. Deworming focuses on killing and controlling worms that can cause deadly diseases. Regular deworming is essential for kitten care, as it helps prevent serious health issues and ensures your kitten’s well-being.

5. Make sure to train your little feline

Unlike dogs, cats love to stay in their comfort zone and spend time with themselves. You can provide them litter box training, social interaction training, and other beneficial activities. Through these small efforts, you can significantly change your kitty’s social behavior.

Make a significant difference on this National Kitten Day by contributing to a local rescue center, adopting a kitten, or volunteering in one of the cat shelters. You can also post on social media or any other platform to highlight the predicament of stray cats and kittens and encourage those in your community to adopt from shelters rather than purchase them.
