I Would Say To Myself A Year Ago

2023

Dear me in 2023,

For a second, what do you think you pictured in terms of 2024? Did you think you would succeed in your current program? Or did you think you would have an internship?

I know that, a year ago, you prepared for the summer camp season to kick off. You were in charge of leading a group of camp counselors, ensuring that they would provide campers with the best games and experience. Additionally, you handled all complaints and behavioral issues regarding the camp. And maybe you felt excited for the first day of camp to begin.

Right now, you’ll be surprised by what you’ve achieved.

You’re no longer doing summer camp this year. Rather, you’re working in an internship where you will learn new skills and how to navigate tricky situations. That must be a relief for you, as summer camp can often be stressful and hectic, even with amazing trips.

On top of that, you’re moving on to a new stage of life. You no longer want to become a social worker. Instead, you’ve studied accounting, business, and finance. Now, you’ve learned about the intricacies of operating and managing a retail store, whether it comes to customer service, employees, or other technical issues.

You’ve also changed within the past year.

Now, you feel more confident tackling the world with a positive mindset. You know what you stand for, and you focus on your true values regardless of challenges. Moreover, you’ll also gain interview skills as you prepare, perform, and tackle your internship.

So, a major change is coming, and you’ll be prepared for the full ride. Maybe now is the time you can see your potential. Right now is the time when you can work towards your future. With this will come major challenges and changes. You’ll have to leave your previous jobs to open new doors. And maybe you’ll say goodbye to all of the supervisory positions that you have held.

But you’ll soon realize that moving on is part of life.

To grow and progress, people have to give up their old habits and embrace new changes. That inevitably shows in our current society. And, to accept change, you must change and enact it. Though change may not seem good at first, the best results will happen along the process.

So, this is a letter to me in 2023. You thought your life was previously filled with twists and turns? Well, watch for 2024, because more things will happen soon.

Sincerely,

Candice in 2024
