Over the past 17 years, I have spent a lot of time exploring Nashville. I currently live just outside of the city in nearby Murfreesboro, and I love going into the city with my kids and my partner. I am also very aware that Nashville has become one of the most popular tourist destinations and places to move since COVID. So, here are some places to stop while you’re in my town.
1. The Parthenon
Located in Centennial Park, the Parthenon is a full-scale replica of the original in Athens, Greece. It’s not just a stunning piece of architecture but also houses a fascinating art museum. I recommend visiting at sunset when the golden rays hit the columns just right—it’s a magical sight!
2. Broadway
No trip to Nashville is complete without a stroll down Broadway. Known as the heart of downtown, this area primarily consists of honky-tonk bars, live music venues, and plenty of opportunities to dance the night away. The newest addition to the area are the rooftop bars, which are great during the fall and spring.
3. Third Coast Comedy Club
As someone who’s taken an improv class here, I can personally vouch for the sheer fun of this place. The Third Coast Comedy Club offers a variety of shows, but what makes it stand out are the workshops and classes, like the improv for couples class I took. It was a blast getting out of my comfort zone and laughing together—an experience worth trying!
4. Cheekwood Estate & Gardens
For a more peaceful escape, Cheekwood Estate & Gardens is the perfect spot. With its beautiful botanical gardens, art exhibits, and historic mansion, it’s a place where you can easily spend a whole day. I love visiting during the spring when the tulips are in full bloom—it’s a photographer’s dream.
5. The Johnny Cash Museum
For music lovers, the Johnny Cash Museum is a must-see. It’s a small but incredibly detailed museum dedicated to the life and legacy of the Man in Black. Even if you’re not a huge country music fan, the personal artifacts and stories told here will give you a deep appreciation for Johnny Cash’s impact on music and culture.
6. The Gulch
The Gulch is a trendy neighborhood that’s perfect for shopping, dining, and taking in some of the city’s most Instagrammable spots. I often find myself here on weekends, browsing boutiques or grabbing brunch at one of the many chic restaurants. Don’t forget to snap a photo with the iconic “What Lifts You” wings mural!
7. Ryman Auditorium
Often called the “Mother Church of Country Music,” Ryman Auditorium is more than just a music venue—it’s a piece of history. The acoustics are incredible, and there’s a certain reverence you feel when you walk through its doors. I always tell friends that catching a show here is like stepping back in time to the golden era of country music.
8. Radnor Lake State Park
If you’re in need of some nature, Radnor Lake is a serene escape just a short drive from the city. The trails here are perfect for hiking, and the lake is a peaceful spot to just sit and reflect. I often come here to clear my mind and enjoy the natural beauty—it’s one of Nashville’s hidden gems.
These are just a few of my favorite spots, but there’s so much more to discover in Nashville. Whether you’re into music, history, art, or just looking for a good time, this city has something for everyone. So, next time you find yourself in Nashville, check out these places—you won’t be disappointed!
