In today’s world, whenever we do anything new, we always feel the need to post about it on social media right away. We post to show others what we’re doing and because we’re excited and want to document our experiences. But can our constant posts prevent us from staying present?
There’s nothing wrong with posting every once in a while.
But if you post while you’re adventuring, you are not fully present. You may even be removing yourself from the loved ones you’re with. We have sadly become a “post first, be present later” society. We are more concerned about how others perceive us on social media rather than focusing on living in the moment.
Stepping away from social media is beneficial.
It will lead us to have meaningful interactions and gain the ability to embrace the moment. So instead of posting to show how wonderful your life is instead of living it, put away your phone and stay present.
Before cell phones and social media took over our lives, we enjoyed our lives instead of worrying what everyone else thinks of them.
It wouldn’t hurt to embrace that present mindset now and then. If we practice mindfulness instead of mindlessly Instagramming everything, we can show our generation that being more present is far more rewarding than constantly posting our adventures and successes.
I am not saying that you should never post pictures on social media.
Instead, live out the moments that matter most and post them later, once you’re able to reflect on your experiences.
At the end of your life, as you reflect on your experiences, you won’t regret not posting on social media enough, but you will regret not enjoying time with family and friends. So next time you pull out your phone in the middle of a big life event, think about what you could be missing before you post.
