We’ve seen less celebrity drama recently. In fact, we’ve seen virtually no breaking fights or shade online. However, Nick Cannon decided to spice things up and start an unexpected fight with Eminem.
That’s right, Nick Cannon just started a feud with Eminem, the master of words.
The former child star turned television host dropped a diss track last night. The track included a slue of rappers gaining up on Eminem. Since it dropped, the track is making headlines.
But before we get into the details of what’s been happening, it’s important to know the events leading up to the release. Although this seems out of the blue, this fight is over something that happened back in 2009. At that time, Em claimed he had a relationship with Mariah Carey (Nick’s ex-wife). She’s continuously denied this claim for years.
In 2009, some of Eminem’s lyrics on the EP Relapse suggested that he still had feelings for Carey. Additionally, a song on the album, “Bagpipes from Baghdad” took some of the first jabs at Cannon, with him rapping:
“Mariah, what’s ever happened to us, why did we have to break up?/All I asked for was a glass of punch/You see, I never really ask for much/I can’t imagine what’s going through your mind after such/A nasty breakup with that Latin hunk/Luis Miguel, Nick Cannon better back the fuck up”
Carey quickly released the song “Obsessed” very shortly after Eminem’s release, causing more speculation. But Eminem followed with “The Warning” in early 2010, which suggested he has proof of their relationship. After defending his wife at the time, Cannon was very vocal about his disapproval of the song lyrics. He even challenged him to a charity boxing match hat never happened. However, Nick eventually confirmed the rapper apologized to him and his wife shortly after the initial feud began.
The two never spoke of the feud between them until last Friday when Eminem joined Fat Joe for a verse on “Lord Above” where he picks up the feud, rapping:
“I know me and Mariah didn’t end on a high note / But that other dude’s whipped — that pussy’s got him neutered / Tried to tell him this chick’s a nut job before he got his jewels clipped / Almost got my caboose kicked / Fool, quit / You not gonna do shit / I let her chop my balls off too before I lose to you, Nick.”
Then on Saturday December 7th, Nick congratulated Fat Joe on the album on Instagram, but blocking out Eminem’s face and joking that Fat Joe had done Eminem a service by digging Eminem up from his “grave.” You know, since he hasn’t dropped any new material lately and has been very absent from the spotlight.
Cannon also took things a few steps further by personally inviting the Grammy winning rapper to join him on his rap battle show ‘Wild ‘N Out’. Now, I really don’t think Em would waste his time because he’d think the show was too childish for his stature, but could you imagine how good of an episode this would be?
At this particular time, fans of the two have wondered why Eminem brought it up again. Also, why is Nick making such a big deal about? Although the couple is no longer married, the pair do still co-parent their twins.
Then the diss track that blew this feud dropped.
Later that night, Nick released “The Invitation,” with an opening by Suge Knight, who openly drags the hell out Eminem and finishing with, “Eminem’s a bitch” in the opening statement. Keep in mind that Suge Knight has a longstanding history with Eminem. It’s pretty funny that Nick enlisted him for the song.
In the track, Cannon (and three other rappers) take a hit at Eminem’s family, past drug use and other personal struggles.
“I fuck with Crack, but the white boy he fuck with crack / Pills and smack, shit, and he ’bout to relapse / Call Kim, somebody get Hailie / And that other kid you raisin’, that ain’t even your baby… Slim won’t show for the video, ’cause he terrified of my squad/I heard your chauffeur got a video of you suckin’ a cock.”
He’s also been taunting the rapper on Twitter, searching for a response of some sort. But he received at least some recognition when Em to go on a little bit of a rant.
Nick continued to reply and retweet fans opinions, people showing him support or responding to Em’s supporters. He even claimed that the rapper doesn’t have friends to back him up in a diss track like he does.
Looks like Nick spoke too soon because 50 Cent spoke up very early this morning, responding to the song. He took to Instagram to voice his opinion that the song is trash, and to support his former G-Unit member.
Nick didn’t waste any time catching a glimpse at the post and took to 50’s Instagram comments to weigh in.
He also immaturely posted a picture of Samuel L. Jackson’s slave master-loving character from Django Unchained and putting 50’s IG handle in the caption.
Now, let’s not forget that Eminem is certainly no stranger to celebrity feuds, but this one comes as totally random because the battle between the two started over a decade ago and has been a dropped subject for so long. Everyone forgot this even happened.
To me it seems like Nick Cannon is desperately trying to make headlines or gain viewers for his MTV hit show ‘Wild ‘N Out’. It also seems like he’s tryng to stay relevent or gain “street cred” (even though he never had any). He knows damn well who he’s messing with and I think that everybody under the sun knows that if the opportunity ever came, Eminem would destroy Nick Cannon on any playing field.
Nick Cannon can do anything he wants to prove he’s not just a reality show host or failed adult actor despite his heightened success on game shows. But picking a rap battle with Eminem is very risky; he doesn’t lose. This fight is something straight out of the mid-2000’s and I can only imagine the response we’ll be getting very soon.
