Everyone struggles — it’s an inevitable part of life. We all go through things in life that we can control, and some that we can’t. Life can deal some unfair cards, but no matter the circumstance, one thing remains the same — it feels good to talk about it! Here are 4 reasons why you should find a vent buddy:
1. You get a different perspective.
Sometimes, you just really need someone besides yourself to assess a difficult situation. It’s nice to take a step back and let a friend help you see everything objectively or give you the reassurance you need to definitively make a tough decision. While reassurance is great, it’s also essential that when you’re making poor choices, a friend intervenes and prevents you from going down the wrong path. Regardless, getting an unbiased opinion when you are unsure of something is always relieving.
2. You get unconditional support.
When you have too many conflicting thoughts in your head, you need somewhere to let them out without fear of being judged. Having a safe space is an important part in learning how to let things go. When you have the help of someone who cares about you, it makes the whole process easier. Knowing someone has your back will make you feel secure, accepted, and confident no matter what.
3. You will cope in a healthier way.
It can be extremely difficult to talk about an issue that hurts you. When you don’t know what to say, you may say nothing at all. If you bottle up your emotions, eventually, you’ll explode. Holding negative thoughts in only makes it worse. When you’re able to safely talk to someone about those problems, you can unpack the pain and begin to process your emotions. You’ll be able to see clearly and know how to survive those unfavorable moments.
4. You learn how to be empathetic.
By listening to and supporting your friend, you can picture yourself in their shoes. You can be there for them and, in turn, offer the same help you want to receive. Being understanding makes you a kinder person and will improve your relationship with everyone around you! Being empathetic and helping others can also make you feel that you have a purpose. Feeling useful will strengthen your mentality and give you more of a reason to progress in the right direction.
I think it’s safe to say that if you don’t have a vent buddy, you should find one now. You deserve to experience a deeper connection with someone and feel like you are heard. The best thing is that not only do you benefit from it, but most likely, they’ll be grateful for you, too.
