Navigating through a relationship can be hard for long-distance couples regardless of the circumstances. When you add a global pandemic into the mix, though, it can feel damn near impossible to find any positives about your situation. Now that Valentine’s Day is coming up, a lot of LDR couples are remembering just how much these times suck (even if we do have our health).
But fear not! Here are seven date ideas you can do online to celebrate Valentine’s Day if you’re in a long-distance relationship:
1. Eat a romantic meal or dessert with a new Zoom background.
You can get really creative with Zoom’s background tool. While the meal and conversation might be normal, you can go all out with a cheesy, sexy, swoon-worthy destination in the background. Or, for those with a silly sense of humor, use a funny picture of you and your beloved for the background instead. It’ll give the illusion you’re somewhere fun together or provide a laugh — which we can all use about now.
2. Order them a surprise meal.
Whether you want to give them a heads up you’re treating them to dinner or leave it a total surprise, a dinner date with the food you ordered will be adorable. With countless delivery services available, you’re bound to find a meal they like! Long-distance couples everywhere should try this one out!
3. Play games together!
There are websites, apps, and iMessenger games that allow you to play online games with or against each other. Or, if you’re up for it, you can try to play Taboo, Cards Against Humanity, or Truth or Dare over video chat if someone has the card games available.
4. Take selfies in similar places.
After you take the photos in similar locations but far apart, download editing apps or test out your Photoshop skills to see who can create a better picture of you two together. It’s something goofy, but you’ll have a laugh at your grand reveal and will probably value those pictures a lot one day.
5. Have virtual sex.
Whether you use your hands, toys, or any other objects, there are ways to make “it” fun. There are even sex toys that can be activated through smartphone apps so your significant other can literally turn you on from half way across the world. It’s intimate and more interactive!
6. Stream a movie or show together.
Almost all streaming services have features that allow you to view the same material with other people and communicate through a chat box. If you’d rather see each other, you can Facetime while you watch something and share your snacks while you each cuddle with your pillows. Watching something together is a great way to feel connected for long-distance couples even when you’re miles apart!
7. Do arts and crafts together.
Hit up your local dollar store and pick up a few things like a children’s paint set or colouring book. Then do your crafts together while on video chat and talk as you do them. You can laugh together at your failures, marvel at your masterpieces, and feel semi-normal during a fun date night!
It can be hard to come up with date night ideas when you’re living miles apart, but it’s easy to execute once you get the right idea. And they don’t have to cost an arm and a leg to accomplish, either.
