With streaming services popular during COVID-19 and movie theaters beginning to reopen, there’s never been a better time to watch new movies. We all know about the superhero movies that are dominating social media right now, but they aren’t the only great movies out there. Here are five movies that you shouldn’t sleep on this year:
The Green Knight
The tale of Sir Gawain and The Green Knight has been reforged into the new movie The Green Knight. A tale of Arthurian Legend, The Green Knight follows one of the legendary King’s knights as he faces an adversary that will test his knighthood. The movie is a mature, somewhat trippy retelling of the popular story, but it’s worth getting excited for.Be sure to read a summary of the story before you see the movie – the plot is complex!.
Synopsis – “King Arthur’s headstrong nephew embarks on a daring quest to confront the Green Knight, a mysterious giant who appears at Camelot. Risking his head, he sets off on an epic adventure to prove himself before his family and court.”
The Green Knight is available on streaming and in theaters now.
Antlers
Horror movie fans, this movie’s for you! Based on the short story The Quiet Boy, Antlerscenters on a teacher who begins to connect with one of her students and stumbles upon an ancient horror in the process. COVID-19 delayed the movie’s release several times, but it should be back on track to release this October.

The Last Duel
The last sanctioned French duel will get the silver screen treatment later this year in The Last Duel. The movie is a medieval “he-said-she-said” story that looks to be worth the watch. And if you like Ridley Scott movies, you’re in luck – Scott directs, and Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Jodie Comer star in this riveting film.
Synopsis – “A woman claims she’s been raped by her husband’s best friend, Jean de Carrouges. But when no one believes her accusation, her husband challenges his friend to a duel, the last legally sanctioned duel in the country’s history.”

Dune
The famed sci-fi story about politics and space fuel is getting a second chance becoming a blockbuster, and people couldn’t be more excited for Dune’s upcoming release. Dennis Villeneuve, who also directs Arrival and Prisoners directs Dune, so the movie should be a huge hit!
Synopsis – “Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence, only those who can conquer their own fear will survive.”
Dune premieres on October 22, 2021.
The King’s Man
The King’s Man follows The Kingsmen, a group of British spies who save the world from anything and everything that might threaten it. It’s a prequel to the first two Kingsmen movies, and if it’s anything like its predecessors, then it’s sure to be a wild ride! And of course, it wouldn’t be a Kingsmen movie without a friendly reminder that “Manners Maketh Man.”
Synopsis – “One man must race against time to stop history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds as they get together to plot a war that could wipe out millions of people and destroy humanity.”
The King’s Man premieres on December 22, 2021.
