Thanks to Taylor Swift, we’ve all seen that we can fit into many “eras” during our lifetime. Any action that can essentially describe your current life can be made into said era. From what I’ve seen this year, here are some of the eras:
- Soft Girl Era
- Clean Era (which was a trend back in 2021)
- Empowerment Era (or what I call the Boss Babe era)
I’m sure there were many more that weren’t trending or used in personal situations. Millennials especially like to advertise and describe their actions and mindsets, hence the “eras.”
So I wonder: If you claimed to be in a “soft girl” era this year, does this mean you can’t be in the same one in 2024? I know what my answer would be, and it’s a strong no.
Many things happened this year to women. Many of us found that going back to a more feminine or “soft” lifestyle was the most appropriate way to handle the new situations. Others stepped up and became less tolerant of the BS and more empowered by other strong women. Many women in certain industries (music or acting) rose to fame and outshined the men by light years.
We’re truly living in a time when we should feel proud to be female. We no longer have to hide in the shadows of others or feel blame for things that are out of our control. We are raising our voices and supporting those who may not be able to do the same. If anything, this is our “take back” era, and I’m here for it.
One of my friends mentioned that we like to describe being in a specific “era,” but that doesn’t mean we should allow it to justify negative things.
Just because someone is learning to remove toxic people from their life this year doesn’t give them the right to be toxic to others. Is someone justified in making changes to their mental health in any capacity? One thousand percent. But, like with any “New Year’s Resolution” or goal, we should remember that we want to keep our compassion and personalities apparent. The world around us is constantly changing. And we are allowed to adapt to it however necessary, but in a positive light.
As 2023 comes to a close within the next two months, what era do you think you’ll be manifesting for the coming year?

I find the idea of “age” an interesting and insightful way to look at personal growth and change. It emphasizes the fact that we are not static creatures but dynamic individuals that develop and adapt over time. Each era represents a distinct stage in our journey, characterized by a distinct set of values, priorities and experiences.
