We have all heard of ridiculous reasons people have called 911, such as when their order at the fast food drive-through was wrong. When you explore Reddit, you can go down a rabbit hole of reasons people have called. Below are some of the best we have found. We hope they make you laugh. Side note: These can be good conversation starters amongst loved ones during the holidays.
1. Winds Of Change
One Reddit post discusses a woman who called 911 because her husband wouldn’t let her change the setting on a fan. Because it was a small town, the police were able to come and help her.
2. Bring A Pee Stick
One European emergency dispatcher reported on Reddit that a couple once called 911 in fear the female was pregnant. The dispatcher tried to tell them this wasn’t an emergency requiring an ambulance, to which the rebuttal from the female was, “My period is over two months late!”
3. Fun In The Sun
After having too much to drink, a woman reported seeing a large fire. Turns out it was only the sunset.
4. Testing The Waters
A gentleman called 911 to report that the water level in the toilet was too high. He knew this because as he sat, his genitals hit the water.
5. Tater Toes
This article from Mirror talks about a woman who saw what she thought was a human toe sticking out of the ground. She even took a picture and consulted others who agreed. Spoiler alert: it was a potato.
6. Bait And Switch
A woman steals a pair of shoes from a shoe store. Then, she realizes they are in the wrong size and gets pissed off when they won’t let her exchange them for the correct size.
7. Holiday Prep
A woman in a panic calls 911 and claims she can’t get the cranberry sauce out of the can without breaking it into chunks. Since the dispatcher wasn’t busy at the time, he gave her a tip, and she was elated!
8. New Jeans, Who Dis?
A young woman calls, panicked, as her legs turn blue, and it turns out she had worn a new pair of jeans, and the dye was rubbing off.
9. Cold Buck
A worried woman called as a deer swam across the river behind her house. The dispatcher asked if it was stuck. She said no but was concerned he may be cold. The dispatcher kindly informed her there was nothing they could do about a cold deer.
10. List It

- I’ve had someone call 911 to ask what the fines for parking tickets are.
- I’ve had someone call 911 to wish me a Merry Christmas when I was working at 3 am on Christmas morning.
- I’ve had someone call 911 to report that their trunk wasn’t opening, and they wanted to know what to do about it.
- I’ve had someone call 911 because they were lonely; they called about 1,000 times.
