When one hears that one of their favourite childhood films is getting re-made, you’re either really excited or really upset, because how could you change what was so pure? Disney’s been heavily relying on their live-action remakes and after so many have dominated the box office, they have no plans of slowing down soon.
Here are the upcoming live-action remakes we can look forward to:
Christopher Robin – August 3rd, 2018
I can’t even lie, this looks so awesome! Like the loyal friends they are, the gang from the 100 acre woods are going to be there for Christopher Robin who desperately needs help-what a heroic story of friendship and loyalty! Unlike other live-action films, this one seems genuine and family friendly. It almost allows you to rediscover your childhood toys again too. You bet your honey pots I’ll be there on opening day.
Mary Poppins Returns – December 25th, 2018
After the popularity of Saving Mr. Banks a few years ago, they decided to create a sequel where everyone’s favourite Nanny returns. I know what you’re thinking, “Will Disney Queen Julie Andrews appear in it!?” Sadly no, because she wanted it to be Emily Blunt’s moment. However Dick Van Dyke will be making a cameo, making him the only member for the original to return. That’ll be magical!
Dumbo – March 29, 2019
First things first, why a Dumbo remake? Second, how are they going to make this movie creepy and scary like all the other dark remakes they’ve made of the classics? Well, they have Tim Burton creating it so it’ll obviously be chilling. Big names are also signed on, such as Colin Ferrell, Michael Keaton and Danny DiVito. I don’t think there will be a big rush to see this film whatsoever since no one asked for Dumbo.
Aladdin – May 24, 2019
I certainly wasn’t opposed to this for a remake, but my biggest concern was who could ever replace Robin Williams as our beloved Genie? But, when I heard it was Will Smith I thought he could do it justice and I was back to being on board again. Filming has already finished too! I could only imagine how unreal this is going to be and the teasers Disney Productions will release before it’s premiere.
The Lion King – July 19, 2019
I was livid when they said they wanted to ruin The Lion King by making a live action dark version. The cast seems well put together, especially because the real Mufasa is reprising his role. But they are ditching Sir Elton John’s music almost entirely, which made half of the movie so fun. I think the graphics will look awesome and it’ll ultimately be amazing, but I’m extremely skeptical of this.
Mulan – March 27, 2020
Now this is going to be one amazing live action film! Think of the battle scenes, the Huns coming down the mountain, the final battle; it’s going to be so fantastic on the big screen. What’s even more special is that written by mostly women, and will be directed by Niki Caro. She’s going to do this film honor!
Other films that are in the works to get their own live-action movies include one about Cruella DiVille, and Lady and the Tramp, which will be available on Disney’s new streaming service that will be available in 2019.
We’ve seen other live action remakes do well in films like 101 Dalmations, Maleficent, Beauty and the Beast, and many others. I pride them on keeping the familiarity and still providing us with something new we’ve never seen before, so I have no doubt these will do well too. Let’s just hope they don’t tarnish the reputation of the originals, because each of these movies were awesome!
